More Mortal Kombat 1 Characters!

As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m a huge fan of Mortal Kombat lore. All the ninjas, the crazy characters, the worlds, the battles; it’s all great stuff. So I am loving Mortal Kombat 1’s approach to introducing it’s playable characters: these one-off little videos that introduce some lore and pop out a few characters. Here’s one for Sindel and Shao Kahn!

Looks great! I’m loving this whole concept. It’s almost like Ultimate Universe Mortal Kombat. Take all the characters, all the histories, all the everything, and remodel it all into a new and similar universe. They did this once before with Mortal Kombat 9, but that was more of a simple cleaner retelling, with some big story changes. This looks like a whole new alternate universe with the same characters, just told a different way.

Now I really want to play this game for the story alone! Mortal Kombat 1 comes out Sept. 19.

There is a Lot Going on in Rebel Moon

Rebel Moon is director Zack Snyder’s next big opus, a mind-boggling space opera that’s going to be split into two parts and show up on Netflix at the end of the year. We’ve got our first teaser trailer and it is…a lot. I’m not entirely sure what’s happening, other than a bunch of space opera tropes all being grouped together into a pretty cool trailer.

It all looks visually cool, but this trailer is all over the place. Who is the main character? What is the time period? Are there multiples of everything? Who is rebelling? And against what? And on which moon?

Your guesses are as good as mine. Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire comes to Netflix on Dec. 22. The second part, The Scargiver, arrives on April 19.

6 Thoughts on Blue Beetle (Review)

As could have been predicted, the Blue Beetle movie is not doing well at the box office. The general public has turned against DC superhero movies, and even when they’re good — like Blue Beetle — they still flop. It’s a damn shame, because I really enjoyed this new superhero movie. It’s not perfect, but I had a fun time at the theater.

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good

Blue Beetle has had an odd journey to the big screen. There have been rumors and test footage for a show for years, all with this modern costume, but they never materialized beyond an episode appearance on Smallville, I think? Then they greenlit this movie for HBO Max, then decided it was so good that it would go to the big screen, then decided to ditch the old DC movie universe and start fresh, then decided that Blue Beetle would be the first movie in the new DCU without actually being made by the DCU people. It’s been wild! And here we are!

Join me after the jump for my full review and thoughts on the Blue Beetle movie. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the whole movie. And feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.

Good Burger 2 is Really Happening

I am probably the perfect audience for a Good Burger sequel. I grew up watching All That on Nickelodeon, I was a big fan of everything Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell did back in the day. I loved all the little cameos Kel has made on either SNL or some awards show recently. So they want to make Good Burger 2 for streaming? Yeah, sure, I’m totally on board.

It looks fine. I’m sure it’ll be fine. Maybe we’ll get lucky and it’ll be a hilarious masterpiece, shaking movie comedy to its core. Or maybe it’ll just be an hour and a half of nostalgia comedy. Whatever the case may be, if I can remember it’s coming out to Peacock Paramount Plus, I’ll watch Good Burger 2.

The movie comes to streaming sometime this fall.

More Adventure Time, Sort of!

Adventure Time was a great show, with a great ending and some great epilogues. And it’s coming back for another one! This time, the focus will be on Fiona & Cake, the gender-switched fan fic versions of normal heroes, Finn and Jake. They’re a neat idea, they’re fan favorites, and why not give them a cartoon?

It definitely looks like fun. Will it be canon? Will it fit into the timeline somehow? Are Finn and Jake really coming back?! How is it going to make sense? We’ll have to find out when Fiona & Cake comes to Max on Aug. 31!
