Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/10/25
Do the weeks seem longer to anybody else? I know I’m working a lot, but damn, the weekend seems to take forever. Anyway, new comics, good stuff all around, like X-Men and Spider-Man.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Superman #7 for an awesome new origin for Brainiac.
Meanwhile, The Museum of the Uncanny Kickstarter was a success! So I will have a new short comic story entering the world sometime soon. Hopefully you all ordered your copy and will get to read it! Beyond that, I’m loving Andor, Doctor Who and The Last of Us, obviously, and continue to slowly make my way through Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Fun game.
Comic Reviews: Absolute Green Lantern #2, Absolute Superman #7, Amazing Spider-Man #3 and X-Men #16.

I posted yesterday that Marvel had announced a Dazzler comic book. I didn’t know when they would reveal the creative team and the plot, but I assumed it would be soon. It’s today. We know all the details today. And, you guys, this comic is being made specifically for me.
First off, I’ve wanted a Dazzler solo series for years, as I mentioned before. A superhero who is also a world-touring music star? That’s such a unique and potentially fun premise! Well now we know even more: this Dazzler comic will feature Multiple Man and Strong Guy as members of the supporting cast.
You guys! What the heck?! I was hoping Multiple Man and Strong Guy would be on the new X-Factor, but this is even better! Supporting cast members in a Dazzler world tour comic?! Did I pitch this comic to Marvel and not realize it?
Nope! This comes from up-and-coming writer Jason Loo, whom I love. This dude is single-handedly taking back Multiple Man and Strong Guy. He’s been writing them as part of the Marvel Unlimited Infinity Comics, which are digital comics. And he apparently pitched this Dazzler book — which is a limited, 4-issue series — with artist Rafael Loureiro.
It’s also going to feature Domino, Shark-Girl and Wind Dancer, so that’s neat. But yeah. Holy crap, you guys. Hook this comic right to my freakin’ veins!
Also, Jason Loo, I know you don’t know me, but we should be friends and talk comics sometime!

Dazzler is Getting a Solo Series!
Hey everybody! I’m on vacation from work this week and am spending the week just lounging at home, being as lazy as humanly possible. So I might not post as much as I should. But I still want to post exciting news like Dazzler getting a solo series in the new From the Ashes line of X-Men comics!
Storm is also getting a solo series, as announced by Marvel yesterday, but the one I’m really really excited about is Dazzler. I’ve wanted a Dazzler solo series for a long time now. Especially ever since Dazzler: X-Song by Magdelene Visaggio back in 2018, a Dazzler one-shot all about her music. I want a comic book about a touring superhero musician! I think it would be neat!
You’ve got Taylor Swift and the Eras Tour right there to use as inspiration. Now mix that with mutant and superhero angles, and you’ve got an ongoing where a mutant celebrity tours the world putting on big concerts and gets into different monkeyshines and shenanigans at each location. It’s a perfect set-up for an ongoing series. And you can explore the idea of mutant and celebrity without the satirical edge of X-Statix.
So I hope this comic is that idea. I probably shouldn’t put all of my expectations up on too high a pedestal, lest I disappoint myself. We don’t know the creative team or the plot yet, but I’ll share that info when it’s released. If all that info comes out today, I’ll just update this post.
Dazzler comes out in September!

Behold This Really Big, Really Cool X-Men Picture!
Artist Scott Koblish has drawn a gigantic X-Men mural as a connecting cover for the From The Ashes relaunch comics. It’s not the first time an artist has done something like this, but this one is really, really fun. It’s all about early X-Men history, and you can see time pass from left to right.
Looks awesome. I love artwork like this. The artist goes above and beyond to draw a bajillion characters and it’s just super fun to look at all the stuff. I found Mimic and Multiple Man, so I’m pleased as punch.
I’m getting more excited about From The Ashes by the day!

New X-Men Relaunch Announced; Multiple Man Anticipation is High
Once again, like the dawning of the sun, the X-Men have reached another relaunch. I’ve been writing about this phenomenon for years, and I call it the X-Men Assembly Line. Every two to four years, the X-Men do a full, linewide relaunch that involves taking classic team names and jumbling random mutants into their rosters.
This time, the relaunch is called From The Ashes and it sees the X-Men splinter off into different teams around the country/world in the wake of Krakoa falling apart.
The full details are available at Marvel.com.
To sum it up, Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman will be doing X-Men, about Cyclops, Beast, Magneto, Psylocke, Kid Omega, Oya (now Temper), Magik and Juggernaut being mutant superheroes in Alaska.
Gail Simone and David Marquez will be doing Uncanny X-Men, and will send Rogue, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Jubilee down to New Orleans to get up to various shenanigans.
Eve L. Ewing and Carmen Carnero will be doing Exceptional X-Men, in which Kate Pryde and Emma Frost train a group of three new mutants in Chicago.
All of these comics sound pretty good to me. I love most of the work I’ve ever seen of these creators — especially Gail Simone — so I’ll be checking out every single new issue. They launch in July, August and September, respectively.
I’m disappointed that Krakoa has come to an end. I thought that was a really neat idea with a lot of potential, but I don’t think Marvel ever really embraced that potential. They resorted to a lot of business as usual instead of embracing an entirely different world for the X-Men. And now we’re back with some pretty classic X-Men styles, which is fine. I’m not complaining. I will gladly see what these new comics are like.
The biggest question for me, of course, is what about Multiple Man?
He is my all-time favorite comic book character, but he’s been pretty C or D-list for years now, and before that he was dead. But every new relaunch is a chance to him to actually have a role in comics again. He wasn’t around at the start of the Krakoa Era, but he eventually showed up and I was grateful. So where is he new?
Well, the new From The Ashes relaunch will also feature six supplementary comics: Wolverine, Phoenix, Storm, NYX, X-Force and X-Factor! The creative teams and rosters have not been announced, but Multiple Man is a pretty popular guy when it comes to X-Factor comics.
So it looks like I’m going to be in a perpetual state of getting my hopes up for the foreseeable future until I know where — if anywhere — Multiple Man lands.
I’m also going to keep my eyes peeled for Blob, to see if he reverts back to his villainous ways or the keep him on the straight and narrow. And, as always, Mimic, who made one single appearance in the entire Krakoa Era. It happens.
