The Best Robin, Tim Drake, is Getting an Ongoing Series Again!
Announced on Thursday, Tim Drake is going to get his own ongoing series again, and he’s going to stay Robin! This is pretty exciting news. The series is going to be called Tim Drake: Robin, and will be written by Meghan Fitzmartin, who is responsible for reviving Tim’s profile by having him come out as bisexual, with art from Riley Rossmo. The series kicks off in September.
I’m pretty excited. Tim Drake was one of my favorite comic book characters for a long time, but then he sorta dropped off when DC showed they had no idea what to do with him. He’s the greatest Robin of all time, but he’s not as dramatic as Damian Wayne, so he’s been stuck in a weird Red Robin limbo for more than a decade. It wasn’t until Fitzmartin came out with a bisexual reveal story over the past year that Tim is finally high profile again.
Here’s what the series is going to be about:
This kinetic, high-energy series pulls Tim center stage as a mystery over a year in the making takes shape. A new villain who’s been hounding Tim from afar decides to take things up close and personal, putting Bernard and everyone else Tim cares about in peril. All that and Tim finally carves out a corner of Gotham City just for himself, and sets up shop in his very own…murder-shack-houseboat?
Personally, I prefer Tim as Batman’s partner, but I can handle some solo Tim Drake as Robin action. Tim obviously held his own solo series for a very, very long time in the 1990s and 2000s. So hopefully he kicks a ton of butt in this new series.
For added Tim as Robin awesomeness, Chip Zdarsky is going to feature the character heavily in his upcoming Batman arc, with a focus on the Dynamic Duo back together. This is gonna be a good summer for Tim Drake fans.

Tim Drake is Coming Back as Robin in Chip Zdarsky’s Batman!
This is going to be another one of those niche blog articles where I’m really just writing my thoughts on a very specific comic book thing that I am interested in. Like, a lot of people reported on the cool news that creator Chip Zdarsky will be taking over the main Batman comic for an extended run. I saw the news and was pretty pumped, because for strange reasons, I’ve never actually read an ongoing Zdarsky comic. He’s supposed to be really good!
I was already planning on reading and reviewing Zdarsky’s Batman when it starts up in a few months…but something caught my eye just the other night that has raised my excitement through the roof.
When I first saw this picture, from a distance when cruising through headlines, I just thought that yellow on Batman’s chest was a stylized symbol. But when I got a second, closer look, I confirmed that it’s actually Robin! I love Robin!
So I went to ComicBook.com, which interviewed Zdarsky about his new run, and I learned some truly amazing news: Zdarsky plans to bring Tim Drake back as Robin full-time in order to recapture that Dynamic Duo action in his upcoming Batman run.

I don’t know if I can properly describe how excited I am by this news. This is everything I want from Batman comics; something I’ve wanted for more than a decade at this point, I think.
As we all know, Damian Wayne has been Robin for a very long time now. But Damian isn’t really a sidekick. He’s got a ton of his own things going on, including his own solo comic. Which is fine, but not something that I, personally, care about. I like the classic Dynamic Duo set up, where Robin is Batman’s sidekick and works with him on crimes and investigations, with Batman is a mentor role.
And we haven’t gotten this dynamic in a very long time. So I am very, very excited that Zdarsky is going to use Tim Drake, the best Robin, in the role that I love best.
Unfortunately, we have to wait all the way until July to see what happens. And the possibility remains that they’ll call him “Red Robin”, but let’s hope not.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/12/22
What a week, people! This might be one of the most joyous weeks in comics I’ve ever had. We got a new Multiple Man Marvel Unlimited comic this week, Strong Guy gets in on the action in Secret X-Men and then we’ve got the mother of all team-ups!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY for bringing together some of my favorite obscure characters for a delightful comic! I’m so glad my obscure favorites aren’t being needlessly murdered for once! Let’s here it for Hornet and the Slingers!
Meanwhile, I’ll have a review up next week on the first season of The Book of Boba Fett. Pretty underwhelming, if you ask me, but otherwise fine. Then the week after, I want to do a review of the first season of Peacemaker, because that show is amazing! Why couldn’t James Gunn have made a Boba Fett TV show? Oh well. In other news, I’m enjoying Pokemon Legends: Arceus just fine.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #88.BEY, Batgirls #3, Mighty Morphin #16, Robins #5 and Secret X-Men #1.

What a bunch of comics this week! Some true favorites, like Mighty Morphin and Amazing Spider-Man, to some really great Robin comics! It’s a good time to be a Robin fan. In fact…
Comic Book of the Week goes to Robin & Batman #1 because I am a sucker for a new Robin-focused story, and this one is just plain gorgeous.
Meanwhile, I’m super excited from the Disney+ Day stuff yesterday. I was going to share some of the previews but they never showed up on YouTube, so I can’t link them. Plus my only real reaction is all of it looks awesome and I can’t wait to see all of them! Bring on She-Hulk! Bring on Ms. Marvel! Bring on Moon Knight!
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #78, Black Manta #3, Mighty Morphin #13, Robin & Batman #1, Robins #2, Static: Season One #4, Strange Academy #13 and We Have Demons #2.

I love Robin the Boy Wonder. He/She is one of my all-time favorite comic book characters, and a character I will defend to the death if need be. My personal favorite Robin is Tim Drake, but I like the mantle of Robin more than I like any specific individual who has worn the mask. Robin is simply an awesome comic book character. And because there has been a whole heck of a lot of Robin news lately, I wanted to celebrate with this week’s List of Six.
Robin is getting a couple new comics in November. Tim Drake just came out as likely bisexual, and that made national news. Robin is going to appear in the Batman ’89 comic, finally giving those Tim Burton movies a Robin. Various Robins are the stars of the Titans TV show, which just started its third season. There’s currently a “Robin” comic starring Damian Wayne, who is maybe transitioning away from the role? Suffice to say, there is a lot of Robin stuff happening these days and it feels good to be a Robin fan. But why am I such a devoted Robin fan?
