Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/11/23
Comic books, comic books, radioactive comic books. Were they read? Yes they were. I gave them all the looks. Like Batman, Fantastic Four and even new issue of X-Men!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Scarlet Witch #3 for another really enjoyable issue in this solo series. This is the sort of clean, uncluttered storytelling I want to see in a new solo series.
Meanwhile, we’re finally learning what happened between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson in the new Amazing Spider-Man this week, but the issue was all set-up, so I didn’t feel like doing a full review. I also dropped the ball with Tom Taylor’s new Jon Kent series. That one is on me. But if you come back tomorrow, I’m gonna run down my thoughts on all the Best Picture nominees at the Oscars! I watched all 10! Like it’s some kind of accomplishment!
Comic Reviews: Batman #133, Fantastic Four #5, Scarlet Witch #3 and X-Men #20.

If you’re reading this when it goes up, I have hopefully not frozen to death. Upstate New York had a really bad cold snap the past two days, and I am hopefully bundled up nice and warm in my apartment. It helps that there were only a few comics I read this week, including Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty. I love that comic.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Scarlet Witch #2 for an excellent second issue that helps to flesh out and establish what this comic is going to be like, and how it looks pretty darn good so far.
Meanwhile, I’ve started playing Marvel’s Midnight Suns and it’s pretty fun. I would have liked something more akin to X-COM, but it’s close enough for my tastes. I watched all of Lockwood & Co. on Netflix and it was fine, but probably forgettable. And I don’t yet know how deeply I will dive into Sins of Sinister or not. We’ll have to see.
Comic Reviews: Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #9 and Scarlet Witch #2.

First week of comics of the year and we’ve got a banger of a start! I really enjoyed all the comics I read this week from the Big Two, so I hope this means we’ve got a good year ahead of us. New issues of Batman and Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty always makes for a good week. Remember when they fought in Marvel vs. DC in the 90s?!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Scarlet Witch #1 for a really fun, really solid first issue to her new solo series. It’s always nice when a new series puts their best foot forward.
Meanwhile, I finally got my Playstation 5! Is that a big accomplishment anymore? I found one for retail price and used some Christmas money to take the plunge on the console. I won’t be playing anything yet, though, because I’m still working my way through Pokemon Violet. I’m not sure why that game is taking me so long…Anyway, I also splurged on the collected edition of Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross, which has been a real treat to revisit.
Comic Reviews: Batman #131, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #8, Fantastic Four #3 and Scarlet Witch #1.

Merry Christmas, everybody! It’s that magical sort of year when Christmas falls on a Saturday, coinciding with my comic book reviews! If you’re reading this on Christmas Day, more power to you! We had some nice comics this week, though everything is overshadowed by the stellar artistic achievements of the new issue of Nightwing.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Nightwing #87 for an artistic achievement that will hopefully go down in legend.
Meanwhile, I loved the Hawkeye finale and will have a review up one of these days. It was quite joyous, and accomplished everything I could have wanted. Hawkeye is probably my second favorite of the Marvel shows right now, I enjoyed it that much. I also tried the first issue of Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit this week and it was not for me. It’s not terrible, but it’s a little wonky.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #82, Hawkeye: Kate Bishop #2, Nightwing #87 and X-Men: Trial of Magneto #5.

As we all know, the first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the post-credits treat at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. And it was neat! Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long for the trailer to arrive on the internet for all our viewing pleasure.
I think it looks cool. About as cool and great as any Marvel trailer. The movie looks trippy, America Chavez is cool, and Baron Mordo looks awesome! Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange both look great. What else is there to say? Bring on more Marvel movies!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters on May 6.
