First Full Punisher TV Show Trailer Violates First Basic Rule of Punisher
Sigh. I should have expected this. They couldn’t get it right in the Punisher movies, they didn’t get it right in the second season of Daredevil; why should they get it right in the Punisher’s actual TV show?
Let’s see if you can spot it in this first full trailer! The show will arrive sometime this year.
The one thing that separates the Punisher from every other revenge thriller out there is that the Punisher isn’t out for revenge. The Punisher is out to punish!
Frank Castle is an ordinary man with an exceptional set of skills whose family just happens to get caught in the crossfire of a mob shooting, and who, in response, sets out to punish all criminals everywhere. Yes, at some point he deals with the mobsters who killed his family, but the Punisher is largely about attacking criminals who had nothing to do with his family’s deaths. That’s what makes him so dangerous! So compelling! That’s what makes him work so well!
But nope, apparently the show is is about some deep-seeded military conspiracy focused on Frank Castle himself, and he’s got to get revenge against those people. Sigh.
Call me if season 2 adapts The Slavers.

6 Thoughts on The Defenders
Get ready for a lot of rants. That’s what I was doing by the time the end credits rolled for the final episode of The Defenders. This show was a huge letdown. Or maybe my expectations were too high. I was expecting something damn near as good as The Avengers. I was expecting something as good as the Daredevil TV show. I was expecting TV greatness! Instead, The Defenders is TV okayness.

TV Rating: 6/10 – Pretty Good.
Oddly enough, nobody is talking about The Defenders anymore. The show is barely more than a week old, and was highly anticipated, but there’s been utter silence since that debut weekend. It doesn’t help that, the weekend after, we had this big Game of Thrones season finale. I’ve been hearing more and more anti-binge washing talks since releasing a show all at once has people talking about it just that once, but go back to a weekly schedule, like Game of Thrones, and people are talking about it all summer.
Maybe Netflix should switch to that model. Either way, join me after the jump for my thoughts on The Defenders TV show! And beware of SPOILERS!
New BoJack Horseman is Right Around the Corner!
One of my favorite television shows right now is BoJack Horseman on Netflix. It is an amazing show, both hilarious and poignant, and there’s going to be a season four in only a week or two! Just in time, almost, for my birthday.
Can’t wait! Super excited! I love how the trailer barely even includes BoJack! That’s important, trust me!

I Am Loving This Modern Orc Cop Movie!
I love the premise of the movie Bright, coming out soon on Netflix. It’s a premise I’ve actually given some thought to writing in the past: put the conventions of medieval fantasy into a modern day setting. So here we have Will Smith teaming up with a rookie orc cop investigating some eleven mysteries. Just see for yourself.
Brilliant! Orcs, elves, magic wands in a real world, Training Day-esque setting. Sign me up! Make this movie happen and come out soon! Sadly, December is not soon enough.

The First Defenders Trailer Kicks Butt!
One of the big things I missed by being in the hospital this past week was the release of the first trailer for The Defenders! Stupid illness! I had to watch this thing on my phone on hospital wi-fi until I was able to get home. Fortunately, the trailer was awesome in both forms!
Everybody looks cool together, the dialogue seems nifty and, hopefully, the story is good. Hopefully it’s not just the Defenders fighting an endless wave of Hand ninjas.
The Defenders arrives on Netflix on Aug. 18 — a weekend I’ll be out of town at a comic book convention. So I’ll have to wait a bit before I can watch it. Alas. It’s a cruel world.
