I Hear They’re Going to Make Another Mortal Kombat Game
New Flash: There are probably going to be new Mario games in the future too. The new one – Mortal Kombat X – was announced today with a fancy pants teaser trailer.
Everybody expects to get more information at this year’s E3 conference, so we’ll wait until then. For now, I will giggle to myself at how proud someone must have been to come up with that title. But then I’ll be disappointed that it’s not a crossover game with the X-Men, because we don’t yet live in a world where that can come true.
Personally, I still don’t own a next gen console, so this game is probably going to be out of my reach. But that’s not going to stop me from hoping Smoke is a playable character.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Is Still a Thing
Remember that cool, gritty, serious fan-film series about Mortal Kombat? I do, and so do the people who are making it!
That trailer starts out amazing, but goes off the rails a little when the super-powers and costumes come in. Then it gets better again in the end. They’ve definitely got a great look going. I hope they don’t lose themselves too much in the crazy stuff. I’m a big fan of this whole project, and I want to see it be awesome. The new episodes start on Sept. 26.
No word yet on whether or not Smoke is in the show. He’s my favorite kombatant. So I’ve got my fingers crossed!
Mortal Kombat Legacy Returns
The first trailer is out for the second season of Mortal Kombat Legacy. It looks pretty awesome.
I really enjoyed the first season of Mortal Kombat Legacy, and especially that original Rebirth video made all those years ago. Well now director Kevin Tancharoen and his people have a bigger budget and are adding even more characters. That trailer looks great. I can’t wait to watch the new episodes. I may even post them here.
You can get caught up with the original Mortal Kombat Rebirth video or just watch all of season one.
I am a big fan of the Mortal Kombat mythology. I know that’s a silly thing to be, since it’s just a fighting game with palette-swapped ninjas (my future band name) and convoluted backstory, but I think Mortal Kombat has one of the coolest casts in all of video games. And having someone make legitimately cool, serious short films about them is an awesome thing indeed.
I only hope they eventually add my favorite character, Smoke.
My 6 Favorite Video Game Characters
In honor of Wreck-It Ralph, this week’s blog list is all about my favorite video game characters! Though sadly, none of them appeared in the movie. Still, being the huge fan I am of fiction and storytelling, I actually pay a lot of attention to the stories and characters in video games. It’s not just all about mashing buttons for me. These are characters for whom I’ll go out of my way to play, or I’ll pick them all the time when it comes to gaming. Sometimes with annoying frequency.
A lot of video games have a surprisingly deep mythology around them. Heck, even Angry Birds has the backstory of the pigs stealing the birds’ eggs – or something. And I often like to immerse myself in these stories. One of the biggest reasons I love World of Warcraft so much is because of the story and the lore. It helps that some of these games get cartoon shows, novels, comics or movies to help expand the story. Not that any of those things has particularly explained why King Koopa will kidnap Princess Peach in one game, and then race go-karts or play soccer with her in the next.
Mario even invites both of them to his frequent parties, as if that won’t make for an awkward evening. But questionable decisions by plumbers aside, here are my six favorite video game characters!
