Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/3/24
Another week, another pile of comics, and life moves on nicely. This was one of those weird Fifth Wednesdays, so not as many comics, but we do have some important ones like the end of Power Rangers and the start of X-Force.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Ultimate Spider-Man #7 because I liked it the best out of the comics I read this week.
Meanwhile, the Kickstarter is up and running for the second issue of the Cloakroom, the short story anthology for students in Scott Snyder’s Comic Writing 101 class. Snyder has a ton of stuff going on these days, and I haven’t even really dug into much of it yet, but I’m happy to support my classmates! I was featured in the first issue, and hope to see many more issues to come! So go support up-and-coming comic writers!

Happy Comic-Con Week, everybody! So much going on! So much news! DC All In! Some other stuff. I’m sure it’s a lot. Thankfully, we’ve got good comics to enjoy like Power Rangers and Void Rivals.
Comic Book of the Week goes to NYX #1 for a truly unique energy and premise to this new X-Men comic, at least in the current climate of things.
Meanwhile, I saw Deadpool & Wolverine Thursday night and it was fun. I don’t think it’s as strong as the first two Deadpool movies because it was more focused on cameos and Easter Eggs than having a rock solid story, but such was the choice. I’ll probably have my full thoughts and review up by Wednesday!
Comic Reviews: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #122, NYX #1 and Void Rivals #11.

I’m back with more reviews this week! Some of my favorite comics came out and I decided to write about them on this here blog thing. Comics like Power Rangers and Superman!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Void Rivals #10 for some reveals that were legitimately surprising and interesting, tying this series to the Energon Universe at long last.
Meanwhile, I keep buying graphic novels and then just adding them to my pile of GNs to read. I really need to read some of them and talk about them in this space. I should be making recommendations of random graphic novels I enjoy! That would definitely be a better use of my time.
Comic Reviews: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #121, Superman #15 and Void Rivals #10.

What am I supposed to do when all of my favorite comics come out in the same week?! I’m trying to give myself less work to do, but now we’ve got Power Rangers, Nightwing and Wonder Woman coming out in the same darn week!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Void Rivals #9 for an excellent crossover with Transformers.
Meanwhile, I’m still working my way through God of War: Ragnarok. I love these games and make sure to 100% as much as I can, just because the game is fun to play and the rewards are fun to collect. I’m just ahead of the endgame now, so it won’t be much longer. Beyond that, I started to read The Nice House on the Lake by James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez, and it’s great! I got Vol. 1 for Christmas, finally read it and immediately ordered Vol. 2. Really good comic!
Comic Reviews: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #20, Nightwing #114, Void Rivals #9 and Wonder Woman #9.

We got the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad news this week that BOOM! Studios is bringing an end to their 8 years of awesome Power Rangers comics. I was a big fan of the Power Rangers when I was a kid, and I think this has been one of the most consistently entertaining comic books of the past decade. It rarely wavered in greatness. So it’s sad to see the whole thing come to an end.
If it really is the end. Personally, I don’t think that’s the case. All we’ve gotten so far about this ending comes from solicitations, and that stuff is specifically written to be teasing and advertisy. And the announcement came paired with a promise of bigger announcements in the future. So something is happening and I highly doubt it’s a full cancellation of all things Power Rangers at BOOM! So I’ve put my speculator hat on and have come up with six possibilities for what’s next for Power Rangers comics!
Join me after the jump to see what I think is going to happen to the Power Rangers in the funny books.
