Misty Knight Secretly Cast in the Upcoming Luke Cage TV Show!
Casting announcements have been flying around the past week or so for the upcoming Luke Cage show on Netflix, and while I didn’t really know any of the characters or actors announced, we’ve finally got a live one here! It seems that the show will feature Misty Knight, another established superhero in the Marvel Universe!
Misty Knight will be played by actor Simone Missick, who I’ve never heard of, but I’m sure will do a fine job. Marvel and Netflix have this casting thing down pat!
Deadline made the catch after a casting call listed the character as ‘Missy’.
Misty Knight is a badass former cop who lost an arm in the line of duty, then had it replaced by Tony Stark with an awesome bionic arm. No word on whether or not the bionic arm will also be in the show, but adding Misty Knight to the Netflix universe sounds awesome to me! And perhaps she’ll guest star in the eventual Iron Fist series, since they’re romantic partners in the comics.

Marvel Casts Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and the Netflix Defenders Are One Step Closer to Reality
There was a moment the other night, while I was watching the Flash vs. Arrow two-parter, that a giddy sensation came over me. It was a moment of pure geeky delight as I realized, with full force, that I was watching Green Arrow and the Flash team-up on TV, and it wasn’t a cartoon, it wasn’t a joke; it was real, awesome, live action TV. It was the same kind of excitement I felt during The Avengers movie, seeing the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor all team up for the first time.
We are living in a world where this sort of comic book reality is becoming more commonplace, and it’s just going to get more awesome from here. I’m beside myself with joy.
So to hear that Marvel has cast Jessica Jones, and possibly even Luke Cage, for their Defenders series is even more exciting. These TV shows are going to happen. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to get bigger. This is just…it’s just cool, is what I’m trying to say. So very cool.
The casting announcements come by way of Deadline.
Jessica Jones will be played by Krysten Ritter, who I’m pretty sure I like. I knew I recognized her from somewhere, and a quick check of IMDB reveals that she had an ongoing role on Veronica Mars, which I binged on this summer.
She looks like a good choice to me! For those who don’t know, Jessica Jones is a former superhero and Avenger who decided to retire to the life of a cynical P.I. after a rather horrific encounter with a supervillain.
Deadline is less sure about the casting of Mike Colter as Luke Cage.
I don’t remember him from anything I’ve seen, so he’s new to me! I’m sure he’ll be fine! For those who don’t know, Luke Cage is Power Man, a former convict who agreed to an experimental procedure to get time off his sentence. That procedure gave him super strength and invulnerable skin, so he probably got the better of that deal.
Jessica and Luke are also kind of an item.
All that’s left to cast is Iron Fist, and then the Defenders will be complete! Though personally, I hope they slip in a few other minor characters for fun. Maybe Stingray? A guy can dream.
6 Things I Want To See in the Netflix Defenders
The deal Marvel made last week with Netflix to air four separate live-action superhero shows is still a little hard to believe. I wasn’t around in the 60s and 70s, when Batman, Wonder Woman and the Incredible Hulk all had successful and popular TV shows, so the idea of actually pulling this off is still very daunting. But then, the same could have been said about The Avengers movie, and that was a clear success. So I have the utmost confidence that Marvel and Netflix are going to pull off shows for Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and then unite them as The Defenders. They’re probably going to be awesome.
And like most forms of superhero entertainment, you know I have my own opinions. There’s still time for Marvel to hire me to be a writer on one of these shows, but until then, this blog is all I have to share with you my ideas for this bold new TV venture. So join me after the jump for the 6 things I want from these shows.
Other than a writing credit, of course.
Daredevil, Luke Cage and the Defenders are Coming to Netflix!
Holy Guacamole, people! This is Earth-shattering news! Marvel and Disney have teamed up with Netflix to produce four live action superhero TV shows, which will eventually culminate in a Defenders team-up spectacular. There are going to be live action Netflix shows for Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones!
Move over, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., looks like Marvel is going to make live-action superhero TV after all.
I don’t even really know how to fathom this information. It’s beyond exiting! Everybody has been clamoring for Marvel to do something with Daredevil since they got the rights back a few years ago, and a TV show is a much better, and much cooler idea than just a new movie reboot. Add along Luke Cage and the rest and we’ve got the makings of something truly exciting!
It seems Marvel wants to do for TV what they did for movies with their Phase 1 films all leading to The Avengers. If it worked once, it can definitely work again!
The shows will launch in 2015, and apparently they’ve signed up for 13 episodes each, leading to the big Defenders mini-series at the end. The shows will all be connected by the Hells Kitchen setting.
“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”
All of this is just…just wow! I’m getting chills over here. It’s like the people at Marvel and Disney are really sitting down and coming up with the coolest possibly uses for all of their characters and properties. Could we really possibly live in a world as beautiful as that?
