Movie Trailer Monday

It’s Monday, I have the day off from work and am just snowed in enough that I don’t feel like going out to clean off my car. I was going to see Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire this past weekend, but I didn’t because my car is covered in snow. How’s that for the universe’s sense of humor? Anyway, it’s time to share a couple of movie trailers that came out last week!

First up, Alien: Romulus. I’m not a big Aliens guy, so I’m not super hyped for this franchise or this trailer. But it came out, people are excited, so here we go!

It’s just a teaser trailer, so not too much revealed. But I’d say this trailer does a great job setting the tone, setting what the movie is gonna be like. Lots of running, lots of CGI monsters. The Face Huggers run now. Did they always do that? Or is this a running zombies upgrade? Anyway, looks fine. Not sure what the “Romulus” subtitle is about, but it exists.

Alien: Romulus is coming to theaters on Aug. 16.

Next up is a fun new trailer for The Fall Guy!

This movie looks like a hoot! Funny, charming, full of action and weird story beats. I think this one could be really wild and popular this spring/summer. Maybe this year’s Bullet Train, only it has more success at the box office than Bullet Train.

The Fall Guy comes to theaters on May 3.

Lastly, a fuller trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

I want to like this movie. I’m going to see this movie in theaters opening weekend. But I stand by my claim that Furiosa did not need an origin story movie. I don’t know how this is supposed to compete with or compare to Fury Road. That movie was a masterpiece. Why not make a sequel? We already know that Furiosa isn’t going to achieve any of her goals in this new prequel. But we’ll see.

At least Chris Hemsworth looks like he’s having a ball as the villain!

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga comes to theaters on May 24.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/23/24

I swear to god, you guys, if this cold lasts any bit longer I’m going to start smashing stuff! I’ve had a whole week of this thing just rooting itself in my sinuses for a wee bit of a pressure headache! Argh! Anyway, new comics still came out this week.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Superman #12 for a truly excellent climax to its ongoing story so far. Fun stuff all around!

Accept the praise

Meanwhile, I watched the first two episodes of X-Men ’97 and they were exceptional! I had high hopes going in, and was blown away by the style, depth, faithfulness and just all around quality job from everyone involved. They took the concept and really used it to its fullest, even if a couple characters don’t sound all that great. I think they should have recast everybody. But maybe that’s just me.

Comic Reviews: Cobra Commander #3, Nightwing #112, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver #2 and Superman #12.

Captain America/Black Panther Video Game Looks Keen

Once upon a time, Marvel announced a new video game teaming up Captain America and Black Panther. It existed in the back of my mind for all these years, and now we have the first story trailer! No real gameplay, but take a look at this atmosphere and character development — Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.

I think this game looks keen! I know we don’t have any gameplay yet, but it looks like maybe an Assassin’s Creed game for the Black Panther segment, and maybe an over-the-shoulder brawler for the Captain America segment. That should be fun.

I’m all in favor of more superhero video games. I love the Spider-Man games. I love the Batman: Arkham games. But other superheroes deserve the spotlight as well. Even if companies make stinkers like that Suicide Squad game, they should at least try! So I’m excited to see what Marvel 1943 will actually be like.

Of course, it’s not coming out until next year, which is going to be a very big year for video games.

I Like the Look of The Acolyte

We got our first trailer the other day for The Acolyte, the next Star Wars TV show, and this one promises to be very different from the rest. The Acolyte will take place in the High Republic era, which is actually very exciting to me. I only ever read the first High Republic novel, so I’m not very vested in that world, but just the idea of it holds a lot of promise, I think.

The trailer looks good. So far, The Acolyte looks like it’s going to be an Andor-style world/story, but now with Jedi and lightsabers. That may just be trailer trickery. Maybe somebody told the trailer-maker to make it look more like Andor, the show everybody loves. But if I’m right, that would be awesome! A series story with a real message, and then with Jedi and lightsabers, would be a good show.

The High Republic era has a lot of promise. Let us see a world where Jedi are at the top of their game. Let’s see all those yellow lightsabers in regular circulation! I’m definitely interested in this one.

The Acolyte premieres on Disney+ in June.

6 Best Ghostbusters Toys I Had

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire comes out this week and I was racking my brain to come up with some type of Ghostbusters-themed list. I’ve settled on just going down memory lane in regards to some of the Ghostbusters toys I had as a kid, because I was wild about that stuff! I enjoyed the movies, even the second one, and was big into The Real Ghostbusters cartoon!

Frozen Empire toys

There was even one Halloween where my parents made my younger brother a full-on Stay Puft Marshmallow Man costume, which was all puffy and awesome. I would give so much to have a picture of that somewhere. I had a store-bought Egon Spangler costume to go along with him that year, so it was that really cheap, plastic clothing smock and mask with thin, stretchy band around the back. But I had some bonus goodies to make that costume really shine!

Join me after the jump to just admire some awesome Ghostbusters toys and whatnot from over the years.
