A Game Too Awesome to Exist

Angry Birds Pokemon. Oh Internet, sometimes I think I’m in love with you.

This beautiful mash-up was brought to us by Adrian Jensen, one of those creative Internet folks that fills our lives with joyful things. I would play this in a heartbeat.

New Ninja Turtles Trailer Has a Tiny Bit More Footage

The more I see of this new Ninja Turtles movie, the more I think it’s just going to be a big, dark, grim fest. This new trailer does not assuage my fears. Not that it’s really a new trailer, per se. It’s the old trailer, but with some new footage, including a few close shots of Donatello.

What is everybody else thinking about this movie? I keep getting the feeling that it’s going to be this weirdly dark, grim & gritty action flick with the Ninja Turtles running around. But what do I know? Maybe that’ll be awesome!

My 6 Favorite Episodes of The Simpsons

I can still remember watching the first episode of The Simpsons in 1989, the Mills family huddled around our living room for another night of quality prime time television. I don’t remember what I thought about the episode or the show. I don’t remember what prompted us to even watch it. But we were hooked from that very first episode, and I have been a lifelong fan of The Simpsons ever since.

Even if I haven’t seen a new episode in years…

Have you seen what they did with Lenny?

I will let historians and poets write a bigger, better recap of The Simpsons‘ cultural impact. I’m just a guy who loved a cartoon, alongside the rest of the entire world. What I can do – aside from playing Simpsons Tapped Out on my phone – is buy the DVDs and watch oodles upon oodles of old episodes. And one thing I’ve learned is that all of the episodes I devoured in syndication had amazing extra scenes and jokes cut out of them that are fully restored on the DVDs! It’s like finding new gems in the old classic episodes!

I hope The Simpsons never goes away. And in celebration, let us reminisce on our favorite episodes! Please share your own in the comments!

Godzilla vs. Rodan!

Well, not really. But in this new Godzilla trailer, we can clearly see that the big guy is definitely going to spend the movie fighting another monster! And isn’t that all we want from a Godzilla movie?

I’m as excited as ever for Godzilla! I want to see him throw down with some evil monsters! The film comes out on May 16, which is only two weeks away!

Letting Go of the Star Wars Expanded Universe

We’re going to be OK. I have been as big a fan and supporter of the Star Wars Expanded Universe as anybody, and Disney’s announcement last week that the Expanded Universe will be dropped from official cannon was a bit disappointing. But we all knew it was coming. And it’s going to be OK.

Sometimes you just have to let go of the things you love.

Oh Jaina Solo, how will I ever quit you?

For those who don’t know, the Expanded Universe is all the novels, comics, video games and cartoons that extend the story of Star Wars beyond the movies. They fill in the gaps, expand the back stories of popular characters, and even look ahead to the future. What happens to Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia after Return of the Jedi? What are their kids like?

For the most part, all of these various stories have been part of one ongoing saga, all under the official umbrella of Lucasfilm. Everyone kept track of what stories were being told so that it was all one big tapestry.

And I thought that was the neatest thing ever!

But now that Star Wars is owned by Disney, who plan to make a ton of more movies and spin-offs, the suits have gotten together and decided that all of that Expanded Universe stuff is going to be shuffled off into a “Star Wars Legends” branding. It still exists, obviously, but it’s no longer official cannon with the movies. Instead, Disney is going to start creating their own brand new Expanded Universe.

Which I think is pretty cool too!
