Oh Hey, There Are More Tick Episodes Coming!

If you’re like me, you gladly watched the new The Tick pilot on Amazon last Summer. It was hilarious and awesome and, thankfully, a whole TV show has been made! Here’s a trailer!

The show will be available on Aug. 25, so keep your eyes peeled! I can’t wait. I’ll be just about done with The Defenders by then, so the timing is perfect.

My Favorite Steven Universe Song Gets a Comic Con Music Video!

Steven Universe is great, for a million different reasons. And the music is definitely one of those reasons. Steven Universe has got some great songs. And now my favorite, Stronger Than You, has an official music video with singer Estelle. Cartoon Network filmed it at Comic Con last week.

Estelle voices Garnet, who sings the song in the show. It’s about the power of love and relationships and stuff. You’d understand it better if you watched Steven Universe, which you should.

My 6 Favorite Female Star Wars Characters

Star Wars is currently producing a mini cartoon series called Forces of Destiny to highlight their female characters, and I think that’s great! Star Wars has always been a little lacking in the female character department. Aside from Princess Leia, there were maybe two other women in the entire original trilogy? And does Aunt Beru even count? Suffice to say, making some original cartoon shorts highlighting Leia, Ahsoka, Rey and others is a great idea!

SW Lady List 01

And it got me thinking about my favorite female Star Wars characters. I used to be a huge fan of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, so I know my fair share of cool, cosmic ladies. I also love how Star Wars is now putting women first, with female leads to both of the new Star Wars movies so far. I think they’re doing a great job and the Forces of Destiny shorts are really neat.

Join me after the jump for my favorite female characters in all of Star Wars, even if some of them aren’t canon anymore. And please share your own favorites in the comments!

Rip-Off City: Overwatch’s Doomfist and Marvel’s The Gauntlet

I don’t know if anybody has made this comparison before, but I spotted it immediately when Blizzard announced their new Overwatch character, Doomfist. A tough, bald black guy with a giant, mechanical right arm? Isn’t that exactly like Marvel Comics character The Gauntlet?

Doomfist Gauntlet 03

I don’t know what point I’m trying to make here, just pointing out what is clearly an obvious rip-off. I don’t think Blizzard intentionally ripped off the Gauntlet, but the coincidence is really, really odd. The mechanical fist is even on the same arm!

Granted, Gauntlet only existed for a short period of time in the wake of the original Civil War comic. He was created by Dan Slott and was actually part of a really nifty gimmick, where Gauntlet had the right-armed gauntlet, and another Slott character, Southpaw, had the left-armed gauntlet — but they never appeared together! Gauntlet was involved in The Initiative comics, and Southpaw showed up in Slott’s She-Hulk.

I did a Forgotten Characters article on the pair of them. That’s probably how I can remember Gauntlet so well.

Anyway, just wanted to point this out. If anybody knows Dan Slott, somebody tell him and see if he can raise the fuss that I can’t! Or maybe Slott is a big Overwatch fan and is now a Doomfist main because of this.

Doctor Who Monday!

The last of the Comic Con news I have to share is a glimpse at the Christmas special for Doctor Who. It’s Peter Capaldi’s last adventure, and it looks like it’s gonna be a whopper!

Beyond that, the BBC also put together this nifty tribute video for Peter Capaldi’s time as the Doctor. I think, at least at this moment, that Capaldi is my favorite Doctor. Though his seasons aren’t my favorite seasons. Is that weird? I dunno, here’s the tribute video.

Enjoy!
