There is Now an Orange Power Ranger, Because the World is a Nice Place!

In a world where nice things happen, BOOM! Studios has designed an Orange Power Ranger for a little kid’s Make-A-Wish. It’s the Orange Beast Morphers Ranger, which I think is the current season.

BOOM! introduced this Orange Ranger as a variant cover for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #40, available at only San-Diego Comic-Con!

Orange Ranger 01

This is just plain fun. You can read the whole story here. Basically, 8-year-old Tyler from New Jersey wished to be a Power Ranger and BOOM! used their powers as the publisher of the Power Rangers comics had this cover made up. It looks gorgeous!

Make-A-Wish, BOOM! and the Power Rangers are all awesome!

Live Action Mulan Should Be Sweet!

Mulan is probably my second favorite of the classic Disney animated movies, so I’m excited for the live action adaptation. There’s just something purely heroic about Mulan that I really enjoy. The first teaser trailer is here and it looks good!

It looks so good that I’m probably willing to ignore the fact that the song “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” probably won’t actually be sung. That’s fine. If they want to make a legit movie about the Mulan story instead of a direct live action adaptation that’s fine by me.

So far, the live action Disney movies are hit or miss for me. I never saw Cinderella. Beauty and the Beast was forgettable. Dumbo was terrible. Aladdin was fine. Huh, maybe they haven’t been hits at all for me…

Still, I’m excited for live action Mulan.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/6/19

Happy Fourth of July Weekend, henchies! I spent my Fourth watching a Stranger Things season 3 marathon inside my air-conditioned apartment, and it was great! Then I went and saw Spider-Man: Far From Home for a second time last night. Good week for me!

In terms of comics, we’ve got some interesting new titles in Aero from Marvel and Lois Lane from DC, one far better than the other. Perhaps Marvel should have hired Greg Rucka to introduce Aero? Either way, Comic Book of the Week goes to Unbeatable Squirrel Girl for a truly excellent finish to their War of the Realms crossover!

Talking to Whales 01

In this week’s comics, an Asgardian squirrel goddess tries to talk to whales, and Lois Lane attends a press briefing at the White House

Meanwhile, did you hear that The Walking Dead comic came to a surprise ending this week?! How gnarly was that? I don’t read issue-to-issue, choosing instead to just borrow my friend’s compendiums. But I still applaud the sheer gaul of a surprise ending out of nowhere like that, even if it probably screwed over some retailers…

Comic Reviews: Aero #1, The Green Lantern #9, Lois Lane #1 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #46.

New Hobbs & Shaw Trailer Continues to Blow My Mind

I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve never really seen a Fast & Furious movie. Maybe the first one, once upon a time? Whatever, doesn’t matter. I’m definitely going to see Hobbs & Shaw on Aug. 2 because these trailers make it look awesome!

I’m going to level with you good people: I stayed up way too late last night finishing the third season of Stranger Things. Then I still had a bit of trouble falling asleep because it was really humid last night. So I’m not 100% this morning. Just enjoy the trailer, and then go finish Stranger Things!

My 6 Favorite Spider-Man Allies

Spider-Man: Far From Home is here and it’s great! I saw it last night and enjoyed the heck out of it! It’s another fun Spidey adventure, with great characters, great action and some really great after-credits scenes! Stay for them all! My full review will go up next week!

To celebrate this movie, let’s take a look at my favorite Spider-Man allies!

Spidey Allies List 01

They’re amazing!

Many years ago, when Spider-Man: Homecoming was being made, I did a list of my favorite Spider-Man villains. Spider-Man was one of the major comics I read in the 1990s, back when I was first getting into comics on my own. And I’ve always had a soft spot for both Spidey’s extended Rogues Gallery and his various superhero buddies. Spider-Man is such a big brand that he has other superheroes who exist pretty much exclusively as heroic supporting characters to him. It’s great!

Join me after the jump for my favorite Spider-Man buddies!
