First Trailer for That Batman Cartoon That Replaces Robin with Katana

Right off the bat, Beware the Batman has earned my ire. What sort of show replaces Robin with Katana? Honestly!

Beware the Batman premieres on July 13 on Cartoon Network. Apparently it’s going to be about Bruce and Alfred battling newer foes like Professor Pyg. Also, Katana is going to be Alfred’s god-daughter for some reason, and he hires her on as Bruce Wayne’s bodyguard, because he needs one of those. Or I guess that’s going to be the cover story so that Katana can really train as his sidekick (or Alfred’s replacement).

The animation looks fine. The action looks fine. Beware the Batman looks fine. But I cannot stand this gross violation of something that’s not really that important, now I think about it. It’s not like I’m the target audience for this cartoon. Still, a blogger must have principles, and around here we are pro-Robin.

Also, did you see what I did up top with ‘right off the bat’? Nailed it.

Get Caught Up on The Venture Bros. with Henchman 21!

It’s been three years since we last saw new episodes of The Venture Bros! How is that possible? What TV show operates like that? My blog, which is ostensibly named after Henchman 21, hasn’t even been around for three years!

But whatever, the show returns tonight with a new episode, and to help get everyone caught up, Adult Swim put out this Youtube video of Henchman 21 narrating the first 4 seasons. It’s quite helpful if, unlike me, you don’t watch the reruns on DVD all the time! Enjoy!

Matt Smith Is Leaving Doctor Who!

I nominate myself as the new Doctor. I did some acting in high school – and that’s about it – but I think the world is ready for an overweight, nerdy American Doctor. They’re going to need to find somebody, because actor Matt Smith is stepping down from Doctor Who at the end of the year!

He was good. He will be missed.

Aw, who am I kidding! Matt Smith was great as the 11th Doctor, and starred in some of my all-time favorite episodes of the series! In fact, I would be hard pressed to say whether Matt Smith or David Tennant is my favorite Doctor. I’ve loved Smith’s quirkiness. It’s probably his defining characteristic. He always felt like a fish out of water, even though he knew pretty much everything there was to know about whatever he was facing. Plus that bow tie is just the bee’s knees. Though, of course, it’s probably safe to say I’ve loved Smith because of the great work behind the camera by show-runner Stephen Moffat. I’m a big fan of the cinematic style Moffat brought to the show in the Smith years, as well as the serialized storytelling. Those two made a great pair, and I’m glad that Moffat will be staying on.

According to the BBC, Smith will star in the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special in November, but then die in the annual Christmas episode at the end of the year. That should be pretty sad. The Christmas episodes are always top notch for Doctor Who. Current companion Jenna Louise Coleman will be still be with the show, as will John Hurt, who is playing a mysterious version of the Doctor. So that’s pretty cool.

Now let’s say goodbye to Matt Smith with my favorite moment in all of Doctor Who!

Good times!

6 Thoughts on the First Season of Arrow

It’s still wild to believe that we have a real, legitimate, live action Batman TV show on the air. Granted, it stars Green Arrow, but beggars can’t be choosers. I kid, I kid. Arrow is a pretty awesome show. The previous superhero show on the CW, Smallville, was more about Superman as a teen heartthrob than Superman as Superman. So it’s simply fantastic that we have a show about a dark, gritty superhero vigilante who fights crime, deals with entertaining drama and doesn’t shy away from costumes, sidekicks and evil super-villain plots to destroy the city with an earthquake machine.

You could put an eye out with that…oh

I’m not sure how to review TV shows. I reviewed the first episode of Arrow, but I have neither the time nor energy to review each and every episode. That sounds exhausting. But I’d still like to talk to you guys and gals about Arrow. So I decided that the best thing to do would be to review the entire first season as a List of Six. And here we are: 6 thoughts on the first season of Arrow.

My Insane Doctor Who Theory

I didn’t particularly care for Season 7 of Doctor Who. I didn’t like that it only had done-in-one episodes and lacked the serial storyline aspects of previous seasons. I never really connected with Clara. And there just weren’t any really awesome scenes or moments. Everything seemed looser, lighter and less connected. It was entertaining, don’t get me wrong, but I felt Season 7 was subpar compared to earlier seasons.

But that’s OK, because now it’s over!

Though the adventure never ends!

The season finale aired Saturday night, and what a finale! Well, it wasn’t as amazing an episode as in seasons past, but it was still a lot of fun. And it ended with a huge, potentially show-shattering cliffhanger. Don’t you just love when season finales leave you with the sort of cliffhanger that leaves you chomping on the bit until the Fall? Yeah, me neither, but Doctor Who did it anyway.

And immediately after the episode, I had a crazy light bulb moment. I think I know what the cliffhanger implies. I have an Insane Doctor Who Theory, and I want to share it with you lot to see what you think.

Be warned, there are SPOILERS  for the season finale episode. If you haven’t seen the episode, go right ahead and watch it before reading. Otherwise, you just won’t understand what the heck I’m talking about! Anyway, when you’re ready, join me after the jump for my Insane Doctor Who Theory.
