The Hobbit Finale Comes Out This Week!
Martin Freeman is kind of awesome.
So I’m definitely excited for The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies – or as I like to call it, The The: The The of The The Thes. The Hobbit movies haven’t been as good as The Lord of the Rings masterpieces, but I’ve enjoyed the ride so far. I just gotta find a three hour block to fit it in.

And Just Like That, I’m Totally in Favor of Marvel’s New Inhuman Policy
There has been a lot of talk about the Inhumans recently, and for good reason. For one thing, they’re going to get their own big budget movie in 2018 as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For another thing, there has long been a rumor that Marvel wants to reposition the Inhumans in their comic book universe to take over for the X-Men, because FOX Studios owns the rights to the X-Men movies, and Marvel wants to find a way around that.
For the longest time, I thought this was a ridiculous idea. I’ve never been an Inhumans fan, and I thought it was just silly for Marvel to force them down our throats just to get their way and spite FOX.
But after watching the mid-season finale for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and reading Axis #7, my normally curmudgeony mind has been altered! It’s as if I’ve personally undergone comic book Terrigenesis!
Consider me completely on board with Marvel’s new Inhumans policies and plans. I’m a huge fan of the X-Men, but right now, they are old news. The Inhumans are the way to go, and I can’t wait to see all of Marvel’s plans come to fruition!
What the heck am I talking about? Join me after the jump to see what I mean! Oh, and SPOILERS for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Axis and Avengers: Age of Ultron!
Behold Krypton; What Our Arrogance Has Wrought!
The TV executives were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should!
Confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter yesterday, the Syfy network is apparently working on a TV show called Krypton, which will be about Superman’s grandfather living on the infamous planet decades before it blows up. I guess Syfy finally figured out what to do with all those leftover Caprica scripts…
This is where our arrogance has brought us, people. We were so excited to get great TV shows like Arrow and The Flash that we didn’t realize what was happening! Apparently DC and Warner Bros. are in some kind of rush to produce as many live action superhero shows as possible, regardless of whether or not the world needs them or they make any sense!
I mean, come on! Superman’s grandfather?! What the hell does he have to do with anything? How is this a show?! Alongside the obvious parallel, Gotham, it seems like Warner Bros. wants to have its cake and eat it too in the worst possible way. They won’t make a Batman or Superman TV show, but they’ll wildly throw out shows loosely based on those characters. And Gotham is one thing. At least that has a young Bruce Wayne, and an actually identifiable star in the legitimately interesting Commissioner Gordon.
But Superman’s grandfather?! Ridiculous!
According to initial reports, the show will be about this patriarch trying to bring hope and equality to a ruthless planet. How is that a Superman show? How?! Is there no one stopping and questioning whether or not any of this is insane? Or maybe DC is preying upon gullible networks who are desperate to leech off the good will of DC’s other shows and all those popular Marvel movies. Syfy clearly saw the recording breaking numbers of The Flash premiere and wanted to get in on that action, but they’ve clearly settled on the most asinine option possible.
So let’s see, what’s next? Atlantis? Themyscira? Mars? Thanagar?
I vote Thanagar!

This Has Got to Be Some Kind of Trick…
I’m actually a little speechless about this casting news. Not only are we living in a world where both Green Arrow and the Flash have amazing live action TV shows, but we also live in a world that reaches back 20 years and recasts Mark Hamill as the Trickster!
For those who don’t know, Hamill played the supervillain Trickster in the original live action Flash TV show in the early 90s. Don’t believe me? Here’s Youtube!
Well now the forces of the universe have come together to bring Hamill back to play the Trickster again on the new Flash live action TV show on The CW! This is all according to Hitflix.
This is probably the most insane casting news I’ve ever written about for this blog. It defies all expectations of how the universe is supposed to work. We’re not supposed to get nice things! The world isn’t supposed to make such perfect sense!
According to Hitflix, Hamill will play an older Trickster who was locked up in prison a long time ago as a terrorist. He’ll be a Hannibal Lecter-type villain, advising the Flash from inside a prison cell, while a new, younger Trickster tries to play copycat. This actually lines up with the comics, since there really is an older Trickster and a younger Trickster who tried to steal his identity.
Whatever happens, this casting is some amazing news. This is a good day.
Marvel Casts Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and the Netflix Defenders Are One Step Closer to Reality
There was a moment the other night, while I was watching the Flash vs. Arrow two-parter, that a giddy sensation came over me. It was a moment of pure geeky delight as I realized, with full force, that I was watching Green Arrow and the Flash team-up on TV, and it wasn’t a cartoon, it wasn’t a joke; it was real, awesome, live action TV. It was the same kind of excitement I felt during The Avengers movie, seeing the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor all team up for the first time.
We are living in a world where this sort of comic book reality is becoming more commonplace, and it’s just going to get more awesome from here. I’m beside myself with joy.
So to hear that Marvel has cast Jessica Jones, and possibly even Luke Cage, for their Defenders series is even more exciting. These TV shows are going to happen. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to get bigger. This is just…it’s just cool, is what I’m trying to say. So very cool.
The casting announcements come by way of Deadline.
Jessica Jones will be played by Krysten Ritter, who I’m pretty sure I like. I knew I recognized her from somewhere, and a quick check of IMDB reveals that she had an ongoing role on Veronica Mars, which I binged on this summer.
She looks like a good choice to me! For those who don’t know, Jessica Jones is a former superhero and Avenger who decided to retire to the life of a cynical P.I. after a rather horrific encounter with a supervillain.
Deadline is less sure about the casting of Mike Colter as Luke Cage.
I don’t remember him from anything I’ve seen, so he’s new to me! I’m sure he’ll be fine! For those who don’t know, Luke Cage is Power Man, a former convict who agreed to an experimental procedure to get time off his sentence. That procedure gave him super strength and invulnerable skin, so he probably got the better of that deal.
Jessica and Luke are also kind of an item.
All that’s left to cast is Iron Fist, and then the Defenders will be complete! Though personally, I hope they slip in a few other minor characters for fun. Maybe Stingray? A guy can dream.
