Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/7/17
The new year is off to a great start! I got a mega dose of new comics this week, and hot damn if they weren’t all high caliber, enjoyable comics! It was like people were writing and drawing specifically for me!
Not only does Harley Quinn get back to roaring action, but we’ve got stellar outings for Nightwing, Hawkeye and Unworthy Thor! Even the first issue of the new U.S. Avengers was a smash! And I caught up with the new Nova! Imagine that.
Comic Book of the Week goes to another first issue: Unstoppable Wasp #1! Marvel is really killing it with the awesome, adorable, kickass female superheroes!

I haven’t reviewed Saga in awhile, even though it’s still an enjoyable comic. I like Saga, but for the past few volumes, it feels like Brian K. Vaughn is spinning his wheels. Am I alone in this? The stories are still fine, and the cliffhangers are as strong as ever, but I feel like the story has become lost in the weeds a bit. Ah well, that’s not going to stop me from reading.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/24/16
We got one! Finally, one of my regular comics has interrupted their normally scheduled programming for a Christmas special! And, of course, it’s Harley Quinn. So feast your eyes, dear readers, on a very Harley Christmas just in time for Christmas!
Speaking of which, Merry Christmas Eve, everybody! This week had some pretty good deliveries, from the start of the new Gamora solo comic to solid issues of Nightwing and Invincible Iron Man! But Comic Book of the Week is another delightfully fun tale of the Silver Surfer, as spun by Dan Slott. This series has got to be why Slott got into comics.

What else is going on? I dunno. The latest issue of Amazing Spider-Man gave us the new ‘origin’ of Ben Reilly and how he came back from the dead. It’s got me second-guessing my writing off of these new pod people clones. But when does a clone stop being the person they were if they keep getting cloned? Is each new clone of the original clone a new person? I’m tempted to think so.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – Dec. 17, 2016
Sometimes I complain that comics don’t feature holiday stories anymore, but then I never read the specific holiday-themed one shots that both Marvel and DC tend to release. I want to see Batman do Christmas stuff in the actual pages of Batman! Holiday-themed comic book specials are about as entertaining to read as holiday-themed TV specials.
Fortunately, we still have good comics to read otherwise. Detective Comics and Power Man and Iron Fist continue to be great, while Mosaic and Jessica Jones continue to disappoint. But this week also saw the release of the new Hawkeye series, and it wins Comic Book of the Week for a really fun vibe for a first issue.

Also, wha’td everybody think of the new Star Wars movie? I thought it was pretty spectacular. Working on my full review still.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/10/16
Everybody having a good holiday season? I’m almost done with my Christmas shopping, have my fingers crossed that a few of my online shopping orders arrive before the holiday, and am dealing with a ton of snow on the home front. But at least the latest changes to Pokemon GO have added a bunch of Charmanders in the downtown area for some reason…
Anyway, I’m just rambling because I can’t think of what else to talk about. We got some middling to OK comics out this week, like Champions. Harley Quinn has its first issue after last issue’s mind-blower, but it doesn’t live up to the excitement — still good, though.
I’m gonna give Comic Book of the Week to Nightwing #10. I’m a little hesitant, as you’ll see why, but I like the potential it puts forth. Plus, there’s a new gorilla character!
More sentient gorillas!
The latest issue of Clone Conspiracy was also out this week, and aside from a pretty overblown Big Twist, there still isn’t much to write home about. It’s like Dan Slott has this story he wants to tell, but he’s struggling to find ways to include conflict. It almost seems like more of a talking heads story, but there’s no way they can just do that for a Spider-Man Event. Better resurrect a bunch of random, old school Spidey villains!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/3/16
I come to you people more the worse for wear. I got some crummy medical news the other day about some inner ear/balance problems that I kind of just need to suck up and deal with. Ugh. It’s just generally crummy. So forgive me for any noticeable typos or bad attitudes.
Fortunately, not many comics came out this week, considering it was a fifth week in November. So we’ve only got a couple comics, from the new debut of Ghost Rider to the next exciting Power Rangers issue! The latter easily wins Comic Book of the Week for more out-of-the-box ideas!

Ms. Marvel also came out with a new issue this week, but it quickly morphed into a big election PSA. Like, I had to go back and check the cover to make sure this wasn’t some kind of free handout. It gets really in depth about the ins and outs of voting…even though Election Day was several weeks ago. Not quite sure what was going on there, and it was a little too hopeful about the election to actually review.
