The Ultimate Avengers Trailer
I know I posted the real The Avengers trailer only a week or so ago, but then some fans at ScreenRant made this amazing extended trailer. They use footage from all the individual movies to build a larger story, then use all the footage that’s been released so far for The Avengers. This is a movie trailer on steroids, people. And it is gleeful.
Thanks to Topless Robot for the find.
Today in Improbable but Very Real Upcoming Movies
I will defend to my last breath that creativity is not dead. However in Hollywood, I would argue that it is confused and unsure of itself. Making movies is a creative endeavor, but actually getting them made all comes down to who holds the purse strings. It’s why I have zero interest in writing a screenplay and trying to make it as a writer in Hollywood. I won’t get to create my visions, I’ll be bound by the horrendous studio system, of which I abhor.
A system that produces the three following movies I want to talk to you about.
There is no subtlety in what I am about to show you. The lines between reality and ironic parody are no more. This is why I think creativity is confused. These are movies that must have seemed like a silly joke to someone, but in a system run by focus groups and the bottom dollar, these movies have actually been made and will be hoisted upon the paying public. Possibly in 3D.
I want you to look at these three movies (2 trailers and a poster) from two different perspectives. First, look at them as legitimate creative films, or at least advertisements for real, upcoming films. For that is what they truly are. Second, look at them as satirical parodies of movie advertisements, created solely for use on the Internet as something worthy of an afternoon guffaw.
You will see no difference.
The first is a movie called The FP, and I’m not quite sure what it stands for. It appears to be a movie set in some type of urban, post-apocalyptic landscape. But instead of wars or shootouts, the rival gangs compete at…Dance Dance Revolution. Were this a parody trailer, it would be perfect in its satire. But can they maintain that brilliance in a full length film?
The next movie is called Rise of the Guardians, a computer animated film by Dreamworks. This is a strong argument for creativity being dead in Hollywood. The premise is that all of the mythological characters from our everyday lives, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, etc., are not only real, but they’re a team of superheroes. They must team up to stop a bad guy from taking over the world. This is insane…but not in a good way. It’s like some executive wanted to make a superhero movie, but they couldn’t just copy The Incredibles, and they didn’t want to license a pre-existing hero, so they’re just taking a bunch of free-to-use characters and bundling them into a turd sandwich.
Then gave some money to Alec Baldwin.
This movie actually has a release date of Nov. 21.
The next film is most definitely a parody, and I remember it being advertised at New York Comic-Con. According to Wikipedia, is does not have a distributor, but the rest of the Internet says it’s due out in 2011. We’ll see. But it’s called Pizza Man, and it stars Frankie Muniz. I’m pretty sure anything starring Frankie Muniz these days is going to automatically be perceived as a parody. No offense to the guy. He’s still the writer of one of the coolest Tweets ever. Mad respect.
But still, this movie just reeks of bottom of the barrel thinking. It’s the most obvious jokes, the most obvious ideas, and the trailer is 4 minutes long. Why not just stop with the trailer and post it on Funny or Die, or something? Be an Internet sensation for a few weeks for far less money.
Though granted, if Hollywood let me make a movie, I’d probably make a crappy one too.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Trailer
Say it with me now, it just rolls off the tongue: ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’.
It’s a concept so silly, so insane, that of course they had to make a movie about it. I never read the book – heard it was only alright – but I’m a big fan of brilliantly mind-boggling ideas. It’s a concept that could only exist in a world of Internet humor. And for that, I approve.
Of course, the movie couldn’t be a comedy. Instead, it has to be a dark, balls-to-the-wall, super-serious action flick starring the Great Emancipator slaying vampires with a wood-cutting ax. Because of course he does.
This trailer is another winner, by the way. Also, does this automatically mean that John Wilkes Booth was a vampire? Or was he some kind of vampire hunter hunter? I guess we’ll have to see the movie to find out!
Who Thought Nude Lizard Was a Good Idea?
Why the hell is the Lizard going to be naked in The Amazing Spider-Man movie? He looks ridiculous!
The studios haven’t released any official images yet, unless you count the brand new trailer that came out a few days ago with some brief glimpses of the Lizard. So based on the trailer, that picture I just posted above and the various toy images that have come out, it seems pretty clear that the Lizard in the new movie is going to be wearing his birthday suit. He’s just gonna be one big hunk of naked lizard-man.
Am I the only one who thinks that looks incredibly stupid?
I’m not going to get into the dumb face he has. Just the general idea that he’s going to be some awkward naked lizard-man. For reference, here is what the Lizard typically looks like in the comics:
The Lizard is really scientist Curt Connors, whose wild experiments turn him into the Lizard. So he’s almost always wearing a tattered white lab coat and clothing. It’s a good look! It adds character to the whole lizard-man identity. It adds color, because ‘white’ is a color when splashed against the dark green of the Lizard’s scaly skin. In the comics, it’s quite clear that he’s a man transformed into a monster because he’s still wearing human clothing. His look tells a story.
In the new movie, he’s just an ugly, naked lizard-man! Was it really so horrible to slap a white lab coat on the Lizard? Did it look weird to test audiences, or something? Did they even give it a chance? This isn’t an argument about staying true to the comic so much as it’s an argument against how stupid he looks naked.
And for Halloween, you can even dress like him.
That costume looks even more ridiculous. Jeez. A pox upon all bastards who wear that costume for Halloween this year!
This is just like Green Goblin as a Power Rangers villain.
Disney Movies Are Pretty
I’m sure a lot of people have fond memories of Disney cartoons and movies. The song were fun, the characters were memorable and the movies were just a part of life! Well one brave soul named NkMcDonalds has put together a medley of Disney movies to tickle the nostalgia bone and just bring a smile to your face.
Don’t say I’ve never done anything sweet.
