Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/27/21

Happy American Thanksgiving, everyone! I thought there’d be less comics this week, but nope, a full load! And while last week was everything but Marvel Comics, this week is only Marvel Comics! Such is what happens when I haphazardly read random comics from a variety of sources. So we’ve got a new issue of X-Men and a new Kate Bishop comic!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Thor #19 for another fun issue setting up a new, hopefully fun story. The lack of Throg, however, is very disappointing.

Not even breaketh a sweat

Meanwhile, speaking of Kate Bishop, I very much enjoyed the first two episodes of the Hawkeye TV show. I thought her character was great, and makes for a nice team with Clint Barton. That should be a fun show. The first few episodes of Netflix’s live action Cowboy Bebop have also been fun. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg for TV shows right now! So many things to watch!

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #79, Hawkeye: Kate Bishop #1, Thor #13 and X-Men #5.

The 6 Dorkiest Comic Book Archers (Not Named Hawkeye)

The first two episodes of the new Hawkeye TV show landed on Disney+ today and I am just as excited as every other Marvel fan. This show has the potential to be truly wonderful, and I can’t wait to dive in and watch. But before we get to that luxury, how about we celebrate the very idea of superhero archers in the comics? There are a metric ton of them. Heck, Hawkeye is even the first one! He isn’t even the first one with his own TV show!

Will this costume appear in the show? Time will tell

Ultimately, Hawkeye is a pretty cool guy. And his counterpart at DC Comics, Green Arrow, is also a pretty cool guy. Despite the general absurdity of having costumed heroes and villains wield fancy bows and arrows, a lot of archer characters are pretty cool. Both Hawkeye and Green Arrow have archer villain who are pretty cool. And both of them have archer sidekicks who are pretty cool. Kate Bishop is surely going to be a highlight of the new show.

So in order to have a little more fun this week, how about we look at the dumbest and dorkiest comic book archers who just don’t measure up to the likes of Hawkeye. Join me after the jump to watch these guys miss their targets!

A Couple Easy Peasy Monday Videos

So it’s Monday. It’s also the last day of my vacation, and Thanksgiving week, where I’ll pretty much be going on a second vacation out of the office as I travel home to hang out at my parents’ house. So honestly, I’m not feeling very workmanlike at the moment.

So how about some easily digestible internet comedy videos?

Like an Honest Trailer for the What If…? TV show!

Or how about How Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Should Have Ended!

Or even How The Suicide Squad Should Have Ended!

Simple, enjoyable videos, so that if you swing by my blog on this lazy Monday, you’ll have at least something sorta nifty to watch. And that’s what matters the most!

6 Modern X-Men I Want to See in the New X-Men ’97

Let that epic theme song roar, the X-Men animated series is coming back! In one of the more shocking announcements from Disney+ Day, Marvel revealed that they are going to revive the original X-Men animated series from the 1990s. I grew up on this series. I was introduced to modern X-Men with this series. It was lifeblood to a young comic geek like me. So I say bring it on!

There are theme songs, and then there are THEME SONGS

The plan is to revive the series and pick up from where it left off. I think it’s a weird choice, but I suppose it makes sense. It’s obviously not the first TV series to do such a thing. And the X-Men’s introduction into the MCU is still undecided. Why make a brand new cartoon from scratch if it’s going to possibly conflict with the MCU X-Men? So X-Men ’97 should be a simple nostalgia trip, using classic comic book stories and characters to keep a show going. And more than two decades of X-Men comics have come and gone since 1997, so who and what are some modern X-characters and concepts I’d like to see?

Join me after the jump for some ideas I would personally love to see translated into the classic cartoon. And please share some of your own in the comments!

Spider-Man: No Way Home Sure Looks Fancy

We waited all day for this to arrive and here it is, the big, fancy new trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home! Does it live up to the hype? Does it live up to the excitement? Will it save the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Yeah, it looks alright.

Lots of exciting action, some fun Spidey jokes, some fun Spidey drama. Honestly, it looks a little too much. But who am I to complain? Who am I to argue? You’re darn right I’m gonna see this opening night and hopefully it blows the doors off the pandemic!

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in theaters on Dec. 17.
