6 DC Characters I’d Like to See on ‘Arrow’
Even though they couldn’t make a Justice League movie to save their own asses, DC Comics has mastered bringing its superheroes to the small screen. They’ve got a robust and popular direct-to-DVD animated market, decades worth of quality cartoons and some of the best live action superhero television shows of all time. Smallville got 10 seasons out of the early years of Clark Kent. That’s very impressive.
Now they’re going to try again for another hit with Arrow on the CW.
Ostensibly based on the character Green Arrow, somebody somewhere decided to drop the whole ‘Green’ part of his name. Not cool enough for modern audiences, I guess? Didn’t seem to hurt when Green Arrow was a major character on Smallville. Anyway, color coordination aside, Arrow is going to be a gritty, urban show about a street-level vigilante fighting crime. The previews have looked pretty awesome so far, and I’m excited. I’m even more excited about all of the superhero cameos the show is going to feature.
So being the comic book geek that I am, I started thinking about what characters I’d like to see appear on Arrow. There is one ground rule through, established by the producers themselves: no powers. With that ground rule in place, here are the 6 DC characters I’d like to see cameo in Arrow.
6 Things I Want to See in Guardians of the Galaxy
So Guardians of the Galaxy is definitely happening. But I bet you all the tea in China that Marvel would rather have a big Fantastic Four movie to go alongside The Avengers rather than relying on an obscure, space-based team of unknown heroes. Let’s face it, nobody outside a specific sect of comic book fans has any idea who the Guardians of the Galaxy even are. Let alone are eager to see them in a movie. There’s no way this film is going to be as successful as The Avengers, or as popular as an actual Fantastic Four film would have been. It’s just not going to happen.
But kudos to Marvel for giving it a try anyway.
Fortunately for you, my readers, I just happen to be a member of that specific sect of comic book fans that both read and loved the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book. So I know a thing or two about the team, the characters and what the movie might be about. For this week’s list, I’ve put together 6 characters, events and whatever else that I’d like to see in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
My 6 Favorite Fictional Weapons
I’m not much of a weapons man in real life. My family never owned guns and I never went hunting. I never got my parents to sign me up for any cool ninja sword classes. I never even got to use my dad’s chainsaw when I helped him gather wood all those times. But like most every boy on the planet, you better believe every stick or toy I found turned me into a Ninja Turtle. Every cardboard tube was an instant lightsaber. It’s just the way of the world.
And while real life weapons are cool, fictional weapons are even cooler! Imaginations run wild and think up some of the greatest, coolest, wildest tools imaginable, and we’d all sell important body parts just to own them. Some people may want jetpacks or flying cars to be invented, but I want these 6 awesome fictional weapons!
My 6 Favorite Movies of All Time (This Week)
I’ve put off writing this list for a long time because I simply don’t think I can rank my favorite movies. I love a lot of films across all genres, and it would be all but impossible to pick a #3 and then compare or contrast it to a #5. And if we’re talking favorite movies of all time, how do I compare the favorite movies of my childhood versus the films I love now that my tastes have matured? Do those childhood favorites even still hold up, or are they basking in the glow of nostalgia? Whereas the newer movies are basking in the glow of newness?
The answer is to rank my Top 6 Favorite Movies based on how I feel about them right now. Maybe next week it’ll be different, or maybe next year. But right now, these are my 6 favorite films of all time.
Another reason why I don’t like ranking my favorite movies is that I’m no film scholar, and most of my films are probably going to seem a little silly. You won’t see anything on this list even resembling Citizen Kane or The Godfather or any other movie that the rest of the world considers greatest ever. No pretentious French films, sorry. In fact, as a general rule of taste, I don’t really like movies that came out before the 1970s. Something about the cinematography has always just rubbed me the wrong way. I like modern films, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I like the films I like – and these are the films I like this week.
Also, apparently my favorite genre ever is quirky, heartfelt films starring famous comedians in dramatic roles. That’s weirdly specific of me…but here we go!
6 Best and 6 Worst Superhero Costume Changes
What would superheroes be without their iconic costumes? The bright colors, the capes, the logos, the masks; it’s all part of the grand spectacle of the superhero. And what’s not to love? You wouldn’t expect athletes to play basketball in jeans and t-shirts, would you? Superheroes need their uniforms too.
And all the best superheroes have more than one – some good, some bad.
There are a lot of reasons for a superhero to change his or her costume. Maybe somebody new has taken up the mantle, or maybe it’s simply a change in the season, or a change in technology. Take Iron Man for example. He started with that big, bulky metal thing, but once he got his hands on his own equipment, he designed the sleek red and gold battlesuit. Or maybe the hero is getting a new comic series, and they need a new look.
Whatever the reasons, superheroes change their costumes all the time. And I’ve put together my list of the 6 best and the 6 worst superhero costume changes. I’d love to hear your thoughts and your choices in the comments!
