Whatever happened to Hybrid?
I love symbiotes.
I love the concept of a living superhero costume. I love the visual of the ooze-like alien swarming over someone’s body. I like the viciousness they bring to battle. I just think they’re cool. And so too do a lot of comic book fans, otherwise why would Venom and Carnage become such huge characters in the 90s?
Speaking of the 90s, that’s when my favorite symbiote debuted: Hybrid!
Embrace the 90s!
But like most passing fads, the symbiotes’ popularity eventually died out. Sure Venom still gets first-class billing, but all of the other dozen or so symbiotes created at the height of their popularity have either been killed off or simply disappeared into the comic book ether. Hybrid faced such a fate after his debut in the 90s. But I’ve got good news for you Hybrid fans – he’s back! Sort of!

Forgotten Characters: Ultimate Scorpion
Whatever happened to the Ultimate Scorpion?
All of the other survivors of the Ultimate Clone Saga are still around, but for some reason the Ultimate Scorpion was bottled up by Nick Fury and has never been seen again. Is writer Brian Michael Bendis holding him like an Ace up his sleeve? Considering Peter Parker is now dead, a surviving male clone might be able to fill a pretty cool role.
Clones? Peter Parker, dead? Nick Fury? What the heck am I talking about?

Who is he?
Meet the Ultimate Scorpion, a character who last appeared with a pretty ominous cliffhanger in a very popular comic book, but has never been seen or heard from again. He’s got all of the powers of Spider-Man (I think), along with a badass scorpion tail grafted onto his spine. Too bad he’s a little crazy. Other aspects of that clone story are still around and have very prominent roles. But for some reason, Ultimate Scorpion has been completely forgotten. Why is that? I want to know! The Scorpion is one of my favorite Spider-Man villains of all time, and his Ultimate counterpart was pretty badass, with a lot of potential. So whatever happened to the guy?

Forgotten Characters: Excavator
Whatever happened to the fifth member of The Wrecking Crew, the teenage, shovel-wielding Excavator?
Fans of my blog know that I am a huge fan of obscure superheroes. I just can’t help it. Sure, guys like Batman and Spider-Man are awesome, but I’ve been reading comics long enough to develop a list of favorites who aren’t quite headliners. Some of the best comic book characters of all time only made a few appearances, then somehow got lost to comic book limbo, rarely to be seen again. I think my blog is a good place to highlight those guys, with a new feature I’m going to call ‘Forgotten Characters’.
First up is Excavator, who only made one appearance in Runaways #1 (Volume 2).
