Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/20/23

What a difference a vacation makes! I’ve been off from work this whole past week, and I have spent most of my week playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. No time was wasted. I did get some cleaning done, and I read a whole bunch of comics. Seriously, so many comics from my reading list came out this week that I had to cut a few! We’ve got Power Rangers, She-Hulk, Superman, X-Men and even Fantastic Four #700!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Avengers #1 for an excellent start to a new series. The same could also be said for Titans #1, which is also an excellent start to a new team book. Jeez louise, this was a packed week!

Giant robots must die

Meanwhile, like I said, I’ve been enjoying Tears of the Kingdom. I’m taking my time to just wander around and explore, and watching all those YouTube videos on 10 secrets the game won’t tell you, or crazy construction projects. It’s all around fun! Beyond that…I haven’t done much else noteworthy this vacation. Lotta things I planned to get to that I didn’t. A real shame. Anyway, back to Zelda.

Comic Reviews: Avengers #1, Fantastic Four #700, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #108, She-Hulk #13, Superman #4, Titans #1 and X-Men #22.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/13/23

It’s gonna be a short week for reviews because not much came out that I read and I had a really busy week. Geez louise, my week! But it’s probably because I’m on vacation this coming week, so work had to really dig it out of me. And this upcoming week is gonna feature a bajillion comic reviews! Everything is coming out in the same week! But this week we’ve got Green Lantern and Saga.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Green Lantern #1 for a nice character focused relaunch. It doesn’t have as much oomph as I would have liked, but it’s nonetheless a solid read.

I feel this panel is very apt for a first issue

Meanwhile, I just finished up BEEF on Netflix and it was really good. Definitely recommended. And I’ve already started playing Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Bought that right away. Breath of the Wild was the entire reason I bought the Nintendo Switch a few years ago, and I’m very pleased to be here at launch for the sequel! Gonna be a fun vacation!

Comic Reviews: Green Lantern #1 and Saga #64.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/6/23

I’ve got to get through one more week or work before I’m on vacation for a while ‘nother week. I cannot wait! Just gotta pass the time, do what needs to be done and hopefully come out the other side free and clear. Having comics helps, like the first issue of a new Shazam! relaunch and another enjoyable Scarlet Witch comic.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #900 because I’m not made of stone and can enjoy some crossover hijinks as much as the next fan.

This is an acceptable crossover

Meanwhile, I’ve been playing the DLC to Horizon: Forbidden West and the biggest problems is trying to remember what everything does. There are so many unique weapons and abilities in this game, and I haven’t played it in a year. But the real big news, of course, is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! I saw it, I loved it and I’ll have a full review and my thoughts in the usual place on Wednesday.

Comic Reviews: Batman #900, Scarlet Witch #5 and Shazam! #1.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/29/23

I’m back. I’m still reading comics and still writing reviews for them. Sometimes we get a week like last week, where all my favorites come out. And sometimes we get a week like this one, where some of my side comics are piled up. We’ve got a brand new relaunch for Green Arrow, which I decided to check out, along with more Captain American and Iron Man. I even went back to Tim Drake: Robin to check in and see how things are going.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Wasp #4 for an excellent wrap up to a wonderful little series. This comic has it all, and should be a big hit with Wasp fans. Characters are treated well, the ending ties everything together nicely and it’s all quite pleasant.

When is Mother’s Day?

Meanwhile, I did not buy Star Wars Jedi: Survivor this weekend because I’m saving my money for Legend of Zelda in a couple of weeks. So I’m missing out on that game. But I did get the new DLC for Horizon: Forbidden West, so at least that’s something. I beat Gotham Knights and put it down, content that I had experienced everything I needed to experience with that game. I fully understand why it crashed and burned, which is a darn shame.

Comic Reviews: Captain America: Symbol of Truth #12, Green Arrow #1, Invincible Iron Man #5, Strange Academy: Finals #6, Tim Drake: Robin #8 and Wasp #4.

New Flash Trailer is Even Heavier on the Batman Memberberries

It’s just not working on me. Drenching this Flash movie in so much Batman nostalgia isn’t doing anything for me. I liked those original Batman movies when I was a kid, sure. But having Michael Keaton back as Batman means nothing to me. Especially not when it’s happening in the middle of a Flash movie, and especially especially not when it looks like he’s just going to stand there and spout familiar quotes from those movies.

First it was “I’m Batman.” And now we’ve got “You want to get nuts? Let’s get nuts.” That’s not a Batman catchphrase! Unless, in his continuity, he took it from that one time he said it and turned it into a catch phrase?

Look, I’m gonna go see this movie in theaters. But jeez louise, there’s so much chaos in this trailer. And there’s so much just slavish praise of Keaton and his Batman. It’s just coming off as really cringy to me. But I suppose what do I know? We’ll find out when this thing comes to theaters, and either lives up to all the hype or crashes and burns like the rest of them.

The Flash is coming to theaters on June 16!
