A Major Peek at the New Marvel Universe!
Marvel Comics is on the verge of a pretty big shakeup this Fall, and they’ve started seriously laying out the fundamentals of their New MU. We saw the lineup of the All-New, All-Different Avengers a few months back. Well now Marvel is putting out character posters to give us all a glimpse of what else they have in store. We’ve got a couple of surprises, a few confirmed rumors, and just some already nifty stuff.
If Marvel posts any more of these today, I’ll update and add.
As I’ve said before, I’m too old and too progressive to get worked up at every little change to comic book characters anymore. I see a lot of strange things here – like the Thing joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the two Wolverines – but none of it bothers me. Instead, I’m excited to see where Marvel is going with all of this. Plus, I really like the fact that X-23 is going to step up and become the new Wolverine (alongside Old Man Logan, for some reason). That should actually be pretty neat. And I’m definitely in favor of Scott Lang’s Ant-Man rising to even more prominence.
Plus Doctor Strange has that awesome battle ax, so that can only mean good things. Hopefully it’ll be in the movie!
What do you henchies think of these teasers? Good? Bad? Let me know in the comments!

6 Things I Want From the All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe
I have always been a Marvel Zombie and I’m proud to admit it. Spider-Man and the X-Men got me into comics in the 90s, and the publisher has simply always been better than DC Comics, as far as I’m concerned. The characters are better, the themes are stronger and, especially in the past few years, Marvel has been putting out better comics.
So you’d think I’d be a little more freaked out by the apparent Marvel Universe reboot coming our way this fall.
But I’m not freaked out at all. Personally, I don’t really think it’s going to be a reboot. I think Marvel is using Secret Wars to do a little garden-tending, and the Marvel Universe will look pretty much the same on the other side. But even if it’s not, I’ve been through enough alleged ‘major changes’ in comic books that I’ll weather this one just the same. As long as Marvel keeps putting out good comics, I’ll keep reading.
Though I do have a few suggestions for the New MU…
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/30/15
Slow week for comics this week…or at the very least, slow week for comic book reviews from your pal and mine, Henchman-4-Hire…which is me! Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that I mostly sorta kinda dropped the ball and simply didn’t read that many comics this week.
Though I have been busy running my Kickstarter campaign for Gamer Girl & Vixen! We’re at more than 75% funded and going strong! Not too late for you Henchies to check it out and get on your favorite blogger’s good side! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Other than that, I took this week to check out some less mainstream titles. There’s the first issue of Surface Tension from Titan Comics, the last issue of Divinity from Valiant Comics, and I decided to double back and check out a comic I missed from last week, the new Lumberjanes! I figured they earned it, what with a possible movie coming out!
Though since I need to stick to this week’s comics, I’d have to say Comic Book of the Week goes to Divinity #4! Writer Matt Kindt concludes a solid introduction to a new Valiant hero.
Over at Word of the Nerd, I’m still doing my best to keep abreast of Secret Wars with a review of Old Man Logan #1. Now that was a great comic. And next week I promise to get back to reviewing more books. I think Convergence is over at DC Comics, so I’m going to dive into as many of their new, offbeat titles as I can!
Comic Reviews: Divinity #4, Lumberjanes #14 and Surface Tension #1.
Looks Like We May Get that Renee Montoya Ongoing After All!
DC Comics apparently did something kind of huge with the end of Convergence — which, I admit, I haven’t been reading. This news comes via Newsarama, Bleeding Cool and a bunch of other comic sites that do much better research than I do.
I’m going to put the SPOILER after the jump, just in case you don’t want to be spoiled and are reading my blog after the comic came out. I would be interested to know the crossover of people who read my blog and who are simultaneously waiting to read the final issue of Convergence.
Still, join me after the jump!
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/23/15
Happy Memorial Day weekend, my fellow Americans! And happy weekend to readers from countries that don’t celebrate Memorial Day this weekend! Whatever the case may be, this is definitely the kick off to summer…at least in those countries that are experiencing summer right now! At the very least, we’re all getting new comics.
With DC Comics buried in Convergence, and Marvel Comics starting to dive into Secret Wars, my pull list is getting pretty small. Fortunately, it gives me more time to focus on publishers other than the Big Two! We’ve got new issues of Bloodshot Reborn and Ninjak from Valiant Comics, and Oni Press’ Kaijumax wins Comic Book of the Week for being delightfully weird.
Being the Marvel fan that I am, I’m not ignoring Secret Wars as completely as I’m ignoring Convergence. So you can check out my review of A-Force #1 over at Word of the Nerd. It’s a solid comic, but it reeks of being just a gimmick. If that creative team was allowed to create a real A-Force in the real Marvel Universe, it would be a hell of a comic!
And if you haven’t yet, you can pre-order Gamer Girl & Vixen on our Kickstarter page! And if any of you readers are fellow reviewers and are willing to give Gamer Girl & Vixen a look see, let me know in the comments!
Comic Reviews: Bloodshot Reborn #2, Kaijumax #2, Ninjak #3, Star Wars #5 and Uncanny X-Men #34.
