Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/14/20

How’s everybody holding up? Coronavirus has yet to hit my little enclave in Upstate New York, but it’s getting closer by the day. I hope all of you are safe, sound and doing your best to get through this!

Thankfully, I read my comics online these days, so no need to go outside! This was a stellar week, with quality issues of The Green Lantern, X-Men, New Mutants and the Comic Book of the Week: Ant-Man #3! This mini-series is just delightful!

Ant Man Avengers 01

Do none of the Avengers cook at home?

Meanwhile, I did get caught up on the first issue of Strange Adventures, so expect that review this week. And I just binged the third season of the Castlevania and it was phenomenal! So dark, so cool, so charming and so action-packed. This series is not one to miss!

Comic Reviews: Ant-Man #3, The Green Lantern #2, New Mutants #9, Strange Adventures #1, Thor #4 and X-Men #8.

So, Uh, Some Movies Are Still Coming Out

The world is coming to an end, but I’m still here and posting on this ole blog. Might as well. Today I’m sharing the new trailer for the next Pixar film Soul! It looks pretty good!

I saw Onward the other day and it was just fine. It had a really strong climax, but the movie itself was just OK. Worth a watch, but not something that will stick around. So I’m excited for Soul. It’s directed by Pete Docter, the genius behind Inside Out and Up, along with a bunch of other great Pixar films. So this could be another one of those really smart, really creative, really emotional Pixar movies.

Meanwhile, the rest of the world is shutting down! Mulan and a bunch of other upcoming movies have been delayed until who knows when. That’s pretty disappointing.

I’ll let you all know if and when I have to self-isolate!

Soul comes out on June 19…for now.

Cruises are a Good Idea Right Now, If They’re Jungle Cruises!

Disney is apparently forging ahead with all of their upcoming movies, including Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. It’s their latest attempt to turn a theme park ride into a movie franchise…though I don’t think it looks very good.

I dunno. There’s action, sure. There’s comedy, I guess. We’ll probably get some good special effects and performances. But I don’t think this film is going to be another Pirates of the Caribbean. I think we’re looking at another Haunted Mansion.

But I could be wrong! I’ll probably go see it anyway because I get paid to go see movies now! You henchies are listening to my weekly movie review podcast, right? Right?!

Jungle Cruise comes out on July 24.

6 Other Invisible Men (And Women) in Comics

Have you seen The Invisible Man yet? It’s a pretty good movie! It’s got thrills, it’s got chills, and it’s got a guy wearing a high tech suit that gives him the power to turn invisible. There’s no ifs, ands or buts in this movie: there is a legit dude with a supersuit running around. And that got me thinking about other comic characters who can turn invisible!

Invisible List 01

Why the bandages? Not a good look.

Oddly enough, invisibility isn’t a very common super power. The most obvious super power question of all time is picking between flight or invisibility, and yet very few comic book characters can only just fly or only just turn invisible. Fortunately for us all, I’ve tracked down a couple of the latter!

Lots of characters can become invisible through various means, like illusions or phasing. These six specifically have invisibility as one of, if not the, main power. Join me after the jump to see who I’m talking about! Pun intended.

Even More Exciting, How About a New Black Widow Trailer?!

Man! When I woke up this morning, I didn’t think I’d have anything to share on the ol’ blog today. It just seemed like that kind of Monday! But then I found that cool Mortal Kombat railer. And now, even better, Marvel has randomly dropped a brand new Black Widow trailer!

Hot damn!

Still looks awesome! I don’t expect this film to pull off Avengers: Endgame numbers, and that’s fine. I think the world is ready for a more chill Marvel movie. This one looks good. It looks to be full of action, full of fun characters and will hopefully tell a really nice story.

Black Widow comes out on May 1!
