Oppenheimer is Gonna Be Pretty Impressive
Christopher Nolan’s next big movie is Oppenheimer, an historical picture about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the guy who invented the atomic bomb. That’s some pretty heady material, but it can also be some pretty impressive material. This first trailer definitely looks like it wants to be super impressive.
This really counts as more of a teaser trailer, setting up the mood. I would like to see some story elements, get a taste of what this movie will actually be about. But then I suppose I could just wait for Oppenheimer to come to theaters on July 21!

I Don’t Know Fashion, But I Do Know Doctor Who
I am way behind on Doctor Who. I haven’t seen the last season and any of the specials that came after, so I haven’t even seen Jodie Whittaker’s regeneration yet! Ideally, I’ll be able to catch up when it’s all on Disney+ in a year or two. That being said, I still get Doctor Who news in my various feeds, and they revealed 15th Doctor Ncuti Gatwa’s official outfit last week.
I do not understand fashion. It looks fine. I guess it looks like a Doctor outfit. But fuzzy orange jumper underneath that brown checkered suit? I just don’t get fashion. But then I’ve been wearing the same cargo pants/button up look since high school. So by all means, I am really bad at this.
But Gatwa looks fine, as does his sidekick, Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson. Here’s hoping for some quality Doctor Who again!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/17/22
Interesting week for new comics! Not too much on my read list this week, but I got to try out some new titles that launched from Marvel. There’s a new Invincible Iron Man, by Gerry Duggan, and then Monica Rambeau’s first ongoing solo series. Both are solid starting points.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Monica Rambeau: Photon #1 because I felt it was the stronger, more interesting of the two.
Meanwhile, I’ve started playing Marvel’s Midnight Suns and it’s pretty fun so far. I loved the X-Com games, and I kinda wish this was more like those. But it’s solid as its own thing, so no real complaints. I’ve also been playing a ton of Marvel Snap, so I’m just up to my eyeballs in Marvel video games right now. I’m also heading to see Avatar: The Way of Water this weekend, so hopefully that will be nice.
Comic Reviews: The Invincible Iron Man #1, Legion of X #8 and Monica Rambeau: Photon #1.
Read the rest of this entryThere’s Gonna Be More Vox Machina!
I am not a Critical Role junkie, but I am very familiar with their work and really enjoyed the first season of The Legend of Vox Machina. So hoorays all around for the fact that we’re going to get a second season already! Sometimes it feels like years between TV seasons these days. But these animation boys and girls have whipped this one together for the new year!
Looks like fun! Personally, I think I’m a bigger fan of the Mighty Nein, and I hope we get to see them in animation someday. But The Legend of Vox Machina is good enough for this weary, old, cartoon-loving soul.
Check out the new season on Amazon Prime in January.

Let’s Go Across the Spider-Verse!
This trailer came out a couple of days ago, but I’ve been having an off week. Just not feeling it. But hey, at least this trailer is pretty cool. We get a big, fun look at a Spider-Verse full of Spider-People! That counts for a lot.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a hugely anticipated movie, by me and pretty much everybody else. Can it live up to the excitement of the first film? You’re damn right it can, and I really hope it does! I want a sequel that’s bigger and better! I know it can be done! We don’t have much on the story yet, or any really stand out new characters — and no sign of the Spot. But i know this one is gonna be a banger!
Across the Spider-Verse comes out in June.
