Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/25/25
Another week and another very small pile of reviewed comics. I might be coming apart at the seams! I read a few comics this week, but we’re largely getting into big crossovers at Marvel and DC at the moment, and I’m just not big into a lot of them.
Comic Book of the Week is Absolute Wonder Woman #13 for another excellent issue and the set-up for another fun little breather story.
Meanwhile, I’m working my way through Mortal Kombat 1 and Ghost of Yotei these days, both fun games. And I’ll be finishing up the new season of Gen V this weekend, also fun. I just enjoy surrounding myself with good, fun things these days. It’s for the best. And the writing for Gamer Girl & Vixen Vol. 3 is progressing very nicely.
Comic Review: Absolute Wonder Woman #13.
Absolute Wonder Woman #13
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Matias Bergara
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Letterer: Becca Carey
It’s entirely possible that Absolute Woman Woman is becoming my favorite of the Absolute books. It’s just so damn good!
Wonder Woman and friends are trying to do some research on Themyscira in their new clubhouse, but she keeps rushing out to fight what appears to be some kind of electricity monster that’s super strong and escapes every time. The monster gives off a dark aura, and it’s really triggering her anger response.
Comic Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.
What else is there to say about this amazing comic? Absolute Wonder Woman is as good as it has ever been, and just keeps getting better. This issue is more set-up for this two-part story, and that’s fine. I don’t immediately recognize if this electricity monster is a classic character or not, and that’s fine. Not every antagonist in these Absolute books needs to be based on a classic character. This is just a good story about Wonder Woman pushing herself to fight a strange, unknown foe, while her really fun supporting cast helps her figure out the mystery. I really like the supporting cast in this comic and I hope Thompson is building up to a really tragic, really awesome Cheetah.
A guest artist popped in to handle this issue, and probably the next. And Bergara is excellent. Not as dynamic as the last guest artist we had, more of a fluid style, and I still like it. I definitely approve of these little artist break storylines. That’s a great way to do comics.
TL;DR: A guest artist shows up to help with a little in-between story and it’s still fun and hugely entertaining.
The comics I review in my Hench-Sized reviews are just the usual comics I grab from Comixology any given week, along with a few impulse buys I might try on a whim. So if there are any comics or series you’d like me to review each week, let me know in the comments.
