6 Characters I Want to See in Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine is coming to theaters later this year, the only Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to come out in 2024. I’m very excited. The world is very excited. This movie promises to be the multiverse caper to end all multiverse capers! So I have some ideas I’d like to see.
We recently learned that actor Vinnie Jones turned down the offer to return as the Juggernaut from X-Men: The Last Stand. We already know there are some crazy cameos planned for this film, though I don’t want to spoil what I’ve heard in case you haven’t heard them too. But it got me thinking of cameos I’d like to see. I saw all of those X-Men movies and probably most other Marvel-adjacent films they might draw cameos from. So I’ve got together a list of all the cameos I’d like to see in Deadpool & Wolverine!
Join me after the jump for some hopeful surprises, and feel free to share your own cameo hopes and dreams in the comments below!
6. Multiple Man
Multiple Man is my all-time favorite comic book character, and he had a fun little cameo in X-Men: The Last Stand, played by actor Eric Dane. Believe me, I was thrilled when he showed up in the movie for a few funny one-liners. I’d love to have him back for whatever sort of cameo the new movie would like! Dane went on to have a solid TV career on Grey’s Anatomy and now Euphoria, so the dude is still acting. There’s no reason not to bring him back, even if just to make me happy!
5. Nightcrawler
We were all pretty much agreed that Alan Cumming was perfect as Nightcrawler in X2: X-Men United, which is a terrible name for a movie. But Cumming hasn’t been seen since! What the heck?! This movie is the last chance to have him back as Nightcrawler, and to perhaps explain where he went and what he’s been up to. I just think it would be fun to see him again after all this time.
4. Hasselhoff’s Nick Fury
David Hasselhoff, of Baywatch fame, played Nick Fury in a 1998 TV movie called Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD. Everybody knows this. Ryan Reynolds for sure knows this. And if ever there was going to be a time to have Hasselhoff reprise that role, this is that time. Nick Fury is, obviously, a major part of the MCU, known specifically for recruiting superheroes into stuff. So it makes perfect sense that David Hasselhoff would come back as Nick Fury to recruit Deadpool into something. The joke is too obvious not to use.
3. Channing Tatum’s Gambit
One of the biggest stories about the X-Men movies before Fox was sold to Disney was that actor Channing Tatum really wanted to make a movie about Gambit. That dude was really trying his darndest to make something happen. He probably wouldn’t be my first choice to play Gambit, but who am I to judge? Tatum never got the chance to play the Ragin’ Canjun, so now’s the perfect time to remedy that. It would really only appeal to the hardcore sorts of fans who knew about Tatum’s Gambit dreams, but so what? Marvel had John Krasinski cameo as Mister Fantastic based purely on fan discussions. And Tatum is a master of quick, silly movie cameos, like his roles in This Is The End and Bullet Train. Out of all entries on this list, I would be most surprised if this one didn’t happen.
2. Iceman
Iceman is one of my all-time favorite X-Men characters, and I was tickled quite pink that he had such a fun role throughout the original X-Men films. He had a small cameo in the first one, and then slightly larger roles going forward from there. I was especially thrilled that he was played by actor Shawn Ashmore, who was part of the short-lived Animorphs TV show on Nickelodeon not long prior. All my favorite geeky things at the time came together for the Iceman character in the X-Men films, and I’d be thrilled if he got to show up one last time to do who knows what. Fight Pyro, maybe? That would be fun.
1. MCU Wolverine
Marvel is going to make their own X-Men movies for the MCU. It’s going to happen one of these days. And they’re going to cast somebody new to play Wolverine. Hugh Jackman has done great in the role, and I’m sure he’ll do great in Deadpool & Wolverine. But somebody has to carry the torch, and what better way to reveal the new actor and the new movie plans than in Deadpool 3? It would be the ultimate surprise, something Marvel could work overtime to keep under wraps until the movie hits the big screen. I have no idea who they would cast, but how cool would it be to have the actor take over and actually get Hugh Jackman’s blessing on screen somehow? That’s the sort of surprise that could really rule the summer!
