6 Mandalorian LEGO Sets I Need Right Now
I am a longtime LEGO fan, and this pandemic has only helped to really push my need for something to do in quarantine. I’ve bought and built a couple different LEGO sets in lockdown so far, with a few more boxes to go whenever I’m in the mood. I even built a custom Wraith Squadron character!
But more than anything else in LEGO, I need some awesome Mandalorian sets! Like this Trouble on Tatooine set!
So here’s my thinking: that Trouble on Tatooine set is clearly modeled after the first episode of season 2. There’s also the set based on episode 4 of season 1. And then there’s the general Razor Crest set, which I built earlier this winter. This all means that LEGO is making Mandalorian sets based off individual episodes…but not yet the episodes I want. I really want that highly detailed, silver-armored Mando mini-figure, but I don’t want all of that Tusken Raider accoutrement. I’m a finicky fella.
Join me after the jump for six LEGO set suggestions based off episodes of The Mandalorian!
6. Cobb Vanth’s speeder bike
For some reason, that Tusken/Tatooine set does not include one of the most interesting parts of that episode: Cobb Vanth! The Mandalorian went to the trouble of bringing in Timothy Oliphant to adapt an Expanded Universe character, kicking off the storyline about Boba Fett’s armor. And even though the set includes a generic speeder bike for Mando, it does not include Vanth’s speeder bike, which was clearly built from Anakin Skywalker’s podracer engine. What’s up with that?! This was a clear chance to celebrate one of the more fun callbacks in the show.
5. Mr. Burr’s Wild Ride
Who doesn’t love the story of Bill Burr joining Star Wars? The comedian has gone on record in the past as to disliking Star Wars. Mocking Star Wars fans was a thing for him. Which is entirely why Jon Favreau asking him to join The Mandalorian. Bill Burr’s character…who I’m sure has a name of his own…was a standout in season 1, and then he got that great follow-up episode in season 2! In the episode, Burr and Mando go undercover to transport a big shipment of highly explosive rhydonium, which is under attack from pirates (or locals, maybe?). That sounds like a fun vehicle set!
4. New Slave-1
LEGO loves remaking classic sets for a new purpose. There are a ton of different Millennium Falcon sets based on the different movies in which it appears, same with the X-Wing fighter. The sets are a little bit different each time. Well The Mandalorian has now provided them the opportunity to remake Boba Fett’s Slave-1! That iconic ship is back, baby! And we actually got to see the inside for the first time ever!
3. Tython temple/fight
Personally, I already own a Slave-1 set, so I’m not going to buy a new one. I mostly just want a mini-figure of the new matte-painted Boba Fett! And I’d like a mini-figurine of his new sidekick, Fennec Shand. So how about they make a set out of the Jedi temple/podium on Tython where Baby Yoda reaches out through the Force? There could be all sorts of rocks and stuff, and then Mando, Boba Fett and Fennec Shand can fight a couple generic Stormtrooper figurines. Perfect!
2. Trexlor 906 Armored Marauder chase
When it comes to LEGO sets, I’m a vehicle man. I prefer vehicles because they tend to be more iconic and less open to interpretation. I’m also not looking for playsets. And possibly the best vehicle scene in the entirety of season 2 was the chase in episode 4, where Cara Dune, Greef Carga and Horatio Sanza are piloting a stolen Trexlor 906 Armored Marauder away from an Imperial base, pursued by Stormtroopers on speeder bikes and a couple of TIE Fighters. The Marauder is a cool, if blocky vehicle, and it would give me a chance to get a Cara Dune mini-figure. Maybe they’ll even give Horatio Sanz’s character a name!
1. Ahsoka & Mando team-up
So here’s the entry that inspired this list. I want an Ashoka Tano mini-figure. They exist in Star Wars LEGO, but they come with sets that I don’t particularly want. Which is exactly the case with that detailed, silver-armored Mando in the Tatooine set. So how about LEGO do me a solid and put out a set based on that amazing episode where Mando teams up with Ahsoka to free a town from bad guys? It was a great episode! And those two mini-figures together in one set is killing two birds with one stone! LEGO has made plenty of sets around duels. So how about the set feature Ahsoka fighting Magistrate Elsbeth and her Beskar spear, while Mando faces off against Lt. Lang. They could also include Lang’s HK assassin droids to make fans of The Old Republic happy! This set could have it all!
Which is probably why it will never be made…It’s like when LEGO made a bunch of Ninja Turtles sets but never had a single set that contained all four turtles. That’s just how LEGO rolls.
