What Superheroes Are Called in Other Languages
Some of you may already know these, but they’re pretty neat. France and Hungary have a way with superheroes, it seems. All credit goes to the clearly awesome James Chapman. That guy knows coolness. And he’s got a ton of other translated character names back on his Tumblr!

I grew up in Ecuador, and although Wonder Woman was often directly translated as “Mujer Maravilla” in Spanish, for SOME reason the Superfriends cartoon that was dubbed in mexico made up a bizarre name for her: Marvila. That always confused me as a kid, since at the time the Lynda Carter show was in reruns and she was only called Mujer Maravilla there.

Bizarre, is it not?
We live in an unendingly bizarre world.
The spanish name of the animal called wolverine is “Gloton”, but because that name would be completely ridiculous they decided to change it, in latinamerica they called Logan “Guepardo” which is the spanish name for a male cheetah, which I thought fitted the character rather well, and in Spain they called him “Lobezno”, which translates something akin to “Wolfling”.
The only place where they used the “correct” translation of gloton was in the first x-men movie, they changed it after that, my guess was because everybody in the cinema, including me, was laughing when they called him that.

Yes, I can imagine how Wolverine’s codename being “Glutton” would be unintentionally hilarious.
There are many superheroes whose names do not translate well into other languages. Rogue was called Titania in the spanish dub of the X-men cartoons, because otherwise her name would have been “Pícara”… and that just does not work. Oh my god, that does not work.
