New Vixen Cartoon to Join the Arrow-Verse!

The Arrow-Verse just keeps getting bigger, it seems! Not only has The Flash debuted to strong ratings, and not only are both Supergirl and Teen Titans rumored to be joining, but a new cartoon series starring Vixen has been confirmed for the Fall! The show will air online only, it seems, but both Arrow and Flash will make guest appearances.

They all actually look pretty neat animated

Vixen was announced at the Television Critic’s Association press tour over the weekend, alongside renewals for new seasons of Arrow and The Flash. The cartoon will be about Mari McCabe, the hero with the power to copy the abilities of animals. Vixen can jump like a frog, run like a cheetah or swim like a fish.

Sounds like a solid idea for a new show to me!

So does having the abilities of a bird somehow turn her arms into wings capable of flight?

There are also rumors that The CW might add a new live action TV show starring The Atom. Brandon Routh has been a major guest-star on Arrow this season as Ray Palmer, and he’s going to don his shrinking superhero guise sometime in the latter half of Season 3. Would that make him spin-off worthy? You bet’cha!

My only concern is that the white male is in consideration for a live action TV show, while the black woman is getting relegated to an online cartoon show. What’s the matter, CW? Can only white men star in your live action superhero universe?

Hopefully, at the very least, they hire a real actress so Vixen can guest star on Arrow and The Flash at some point. They definitely need more female members of the off-kilter Justice League they’re building.

  1. This Vixen cartoon seems like a good idea! Hopefully, the same actress who does the voice will appear in live-action on Arrow and The Flash.
As for Supergirl, the chairman of CBS (which will air Supergirl) said that it won’t be taking place in the Arrowverse (http://www.comingsoon.net/tv/news/398629-cbs-head-talks-supergirl-series-shoots-down-potential-for-cw-crossover). Which is a missed opportunity, if you ask me.

  2. I’m not entirely sure why they decided to make this an animated series as apposed to a live action series. Based on her power set, it would be pretty easy to pull off on a TV budget. Hell I bet it would be easier than the Flashes powers. Also I think we need more badass female heroes of minority on television nowadays. Just look at the popularity of Buffy, people love female ass kicking action stars. Still I’m going to watch cause I love comics but damn, I feel like this is a wasted opportunity.

    • My thoughts exactly! No reason to make this an animated series, unless they’re trying really, really hard to push their online streaming service – which they could be. Everything I’ve been reading is that all networks will be offering their own online streaming in the future. So maybe they just want Vixen to lead that charge.

  3. Hope this comic also features Gamer Girl. XD
