Robin’s Fate Spoiled in the Media

The evil news media has done it again: they’ve spoiled the fate of Damian Wayne. They did it when Captain America was shot. They did it when Peter Parker was killed. And now they’ve done it again! Though I’m not going to do the spoiling until after the jump.

What kind of kid hates the zoo?

Though you can read my previous article on whether or not Damian was going to be killed. Or you can just click the jump to find out for sure. What the heck happens to Damian!? THERE WILL BE SPOILERS AFTER THE JUMP!

Yep, he’s dead.

The New York Post ran an article on Monday that spoiled the news that Damian is going to die in a battle with his evil clone in Batman Incorporated #8, and that Batman will be too late to save him. It’s a shame, really, since Damian has had such a strong presence in that series so far. He was great in issue #7. But I guess Grant Morrison always planned to kill him.

Kind of like a mirror to Batman R.I.P.

In the interview, Morrison had this to say:

“It’s all about the family and the family going to hell,” said Morrison, who threw in elements of his own parents’ divorce. “The two adults in the story are both culpable. The kid’s the good guy.”

So it’s too bad that Damian is dead. But as I’ve said before, I never particularly liked him as Robin. And now I’m looking forward to the origin of a new Robin! And stay tuned the rest of this week as we celebrate Robin Week!

There are way too many Robins now! I really don’t see the need to introduce a new Robin so soon. Leave him dead for a few years then get him back in the Robin suit. I’m all for new characters but Damian is being killed at the height of his popularity there can be more to him. Plus another Robin and it will definitely feel like an internship program…… bringing back horrible memories for me!! by the way Henchmen how do you like your coffee?

    • I actually don’t drink coffee. But I agree, there are way too many Robins. Damian was even starting to grow on me. But DC had to have their cake and eat it too, they had to reboot their universe and give it a 5-year lifespan, while simultaneously leaving all of the popular Batman stories intact. Stupid. And I’m pretty sure DC has already come out and said that Robin has kind of been retooled as a definite internship program. So there’s that. I wouldn’t mind bringing in a new Robin, especially if it’s Harper Row. I fully support her for candidacy as the new Robin.

No Coffee? Bless you man! lol me neither. As for Harper i have to see myself, not yet convinced she’s been created for that purpose yet, I too took some time to warm up to Damian and i initially wanted him killed. DC has made several terrible moves recently and this might be one of them. The reboot and new constrained timeline for the sake of sales shows perfectly how Warner Bros. just as DC has little confidence in their comic book properties. I am enjoying the Bat books up till now but seeing the other characters be wrecked up by the new continuity devastates me. Lastly i gotta say i really enjoy your blog, it provides me a daily source of entertainment before i plunge myself into post production for the day. 🙂

      • Glad to be here for you! And you’re absolutely right about that constrained timeline thing. I’ve been speaking out against it for awhile now. DC is really shooting themselves in the long term foot if they keep having all these big events take place so early into the reboot.

  2. I would rather have them wait a while, not just with Robin, but with everything, everything is being crammed into a extremely short timespan, and there’s going to end up being a big lull where nothing happens, or they’ll reboot and screw up again. I don’t really know my opinion on what they should do with Robin, I never liked Damian, but I don’t really think they should try to bring Tim Drake back, as it would mess up what he has going on, and just seems weird. On the other hand, another Robin would be too soon, and cheapen the position especially seeing as Damian’s fairly new. Seeing Batman without a Robin would work for a while, but they need to find someone. I kinda like the idea of bringing Jason Todd back into the suit, maybe not flat-out as Robin, but as the new sidekick, his story isn’t going very well, and I think you could write some interesting things about the story between him and Batman.

    • I believe that the series Batman and Robin is going to spend a few issues with Batman reconnecting with his former Robins, including Tim and Jason, but none of it’s going to be permanent. None of them are going to step back into the role. I imagine we’ll get a new Robin down the line, a Robin specifically for the reboot.
