Saying Goodbye to the Ponds

I wasn’t as broken up about the loss of Amy and Rory Pond in Doctor Who as I have been about some of the previous companions, but I’ve no doubt that if they’d actually filmed and included this deleted scene, I would have been in tears!

SPOILERS, of course, for what happened to the Ponds…though I think everyone already knows that the Ponds were leaving Doctor Who.

That was heart-breaking! The final fate of the Ponds, as well as a goodbye to Brian Pond. This scene was apparently written but never filmed. That’s definitely Rory’s voice, so someone toyed around with it. Gloriously sad scene. They should have included it in the episode.

What did the rest of you think about the mid-season finale of Doctor Who Season 7? I’ve been toying with the idea of writing a review of all six episodes, but I dunno…mostly because I wasn’t too impressed or elated by Season 7 so far. But what did you guys think? I know I’ve got some Whovians in my readership. Let me know in the comments!

  1. Also dude, SPOILERS!

Anyway…I think Rory got shafted a little. He doesn’t get to say good bye. And then the Doctor’s all like “Who cares about Rory? Amy you should stay here.” That was kinda cold. His suicide paradox was kinda neat. The book explanation needed a little work.

Honestly I can barely remember the other episodes. Asylum of the Daleks was okish. The end was good. The cowboy one stunk. The cube one seemed to miss the whole point by not showing nearly enough Doctor doing normal things. And I seem to recall Lord Frey/Filtch stealing dinosaurs for no important purpose.

    • It’s been several weeks now since they left, and several months since everyone knew that they would be leaving. I feel I’m safe from spoilers. I didn’t reveal how they leave, after all. But you’re definitely right, the first half of season 7 was disappointingly forgettable. Steven Moffat had said he wanted to make a bunch of stand alone episodes, and he did, but Moffat’s best work were the serialized ongoing storylines.
