Please, Nobody Freak Out About the New Ninja Turtles

There’s going to be a new Ninja Turtles cartoon, called Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There are going to be a lot of changes to the series, as detailed at Entertainment Weekly. All I’m asking is that nobody freak out.

TMNT New 01

Looks fine

I am a huge Ninja Turtles fan. Their original cartoon was probably my favorite classic 80s cartoon growing up. And a lot of people can be strict Ninja Turtles purists. Those people might have a problem with these new changes, including the fact that Raphael is the leader, Leonardo is the rebel, the Turtles are all different species of turtle, and they have different looks and weapons.

I’m here to tell you that this is totally OK.

I was a big fan of the last Ninja Turtles cartoon on Nickelodeon, and I didn’t even know it had come to an end. And that’s entirely my point:

There are so many different incarnations of the Ninja Turtles these days that a few cosmetic changes DO NOT MATTER!

TMNT New 03

Perfectly fine

There are SO many different Ninja Turtles things these days. There are half a dozen separate cartoons, each one a little bit different. There are the original movies and the newer movies. There are multiple comic book series from several different publishers. So many video games. There is no end to the different incarnations of the Ninja Turtles.

Therefore, it is pointless to get upset with whatever changes they implement in only the latest incarnation.

Do we really want to just keep re-living the same Ninja Turtles over and over again ad infinitum? If we’re getting a new cartoon, why not let the creative people behind it flex their muscles and try something new? There’ll be a new cartoon or movie or video game coming along in a couple of years. It’s inevitable.

So don’t freak out about the changes in this cartoon. They’ll be changed back in the next cartoon, probably. Just let this one be. Maybe it’ll be good.

The important thing is that the Ninja Turtles are still cool.

There Were So Many Things Wrong With Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

I enjoyed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, but oh man, it was an annoying movie. So many dumb little bits and leaps in logic. The movie just didn’t care. Fortunately, we have Cinema Sins, though they didn’t catch all the nitpicks I did in my review!

Have you heard that there won’t be a third Ninja Turtles movie? That’s kind of a shame. I was looking forward to seeing Mondo Gecko and/or the Rat King.

6 Mutants I Want to See in a Future Ninja Turtles Movie

The latest trailer for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel got me thinking about one of my favorite things in the world: mutants! The Ninja Turtles were my cartoon of choice growing up in the 1980s, and you better believed I owned every crazy Ninja Turtles action figure I could get my hands on! The very premise of martial arts animal people was so limitless that we got everything from a moose Mountie to a basketball-playing giraffe!

Nostalgia’s gonna get ya, suckas

The latest trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows focuses heavily on Bebop and Rocksteady, and the idea that the Shredder now has the ability to make more mutants. If the Ninja Turtles movies are anything like the X-Men movies (another popular mutant franchise), then all the upcoming sequels are going to try and cram as many new mutants onto the screen as they can!

Seeing as how I am an expert in ancillary Ninja Turtles, I’ve decided to offer up a few suggestions for the franchise.

New Ninja Turtles Movie Still Looks Like Dumb Fun

I stand by my enjoyment of the first Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. It’s big, dumb fun starring some of my all-time favorite characters. The Ninja Turtles have been re-invented so many times over the decades that what’s one more? Hopefully the sequel will be just as fun.

I especially like what I see from Bebop and Rocksteady! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will come out on June 3.

The Current Ninja Turtles Cartoon Is Everything One Could Want From the Ninja Turtles

Back in the 1980s, the Ninja Turtles were my jam. I watched all the cartoons, from Real Ghostbusters to Transformers to G.I. Joe. But The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were my #1. And I’m under no impression that those old cartoons hold up today. That’s why I open my mind to accept all the new and different versions of the Turtles. I love the IDW comics, I enjoy the Michael Bay movies, and I’m a huge fan of the cartoon on Nickelodeon. Not only is it a fun series, but there’s rich in Turtles lore and tributes!

And now they’re going full tilt, with an insane 2D/3D crossover between the Turtles of now and the Turtles of old! Here’s a clip!

If only the Michael Bay Turtle movies were this clever. And that’s the original voice actors from the 80s, too!
