Tuesday Trailerpalooza

Last week, a metric ton of new trailers come out for everything from indie movies to big action movies to TV shows to video games. How am I supposed to keep up with them all? By dumping them on all in a single post on a Tuesday. Go me!

First up is the new movie Bottoms, which looks pretty fun as a silly, potentially raunchy high school teen comedy.

I might for sure give this one a watch if it comes to a theater near me. Could be funny. Could be really bad. There’s only one way to find out. Bottoms comes to theaters on Aug. 25.

Next up, let’s check out the trailer for the second season of Good Omens!

I really enjoyed the book, I really enjoyed the first season, and I’ll be happy to watch a second season. I’m sure they’ll have a ton of fun with this one! I think it’s an entirely new story, since the book didn’t have a sequel. As long as it’s got Neil Gaiman’s seal of approval, I’ll be content.

Good Omens season two comes to Amazon Prime on July 28.

Thirdly, it’s the full trailer for the long-awaited Venture Bros. wrap-up movie, which has the silly title of Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart.

I love the Venture Bros. as much as the next person. I even cosplayed as Henchman 21 at a couple of comic cons. Those pictures exist on the internet. Anyway, as much as I loved the show, I was somebody who got annoyed at how rarely new seasons came out. They were good seasons when they did…but they also rarely accomplished anything, paid off anything or were very memorable for the next five years of new content.

It was a shame when the show got cancelled, but…eh. I’ll gladly watch this movie. Hopefully they do pay off everything they put into this series. Or maybe there will just be more movies.

The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart will come to digital and DVD at the end of July.

Lastly, for now, we got a full game trailer for Moral Kombat 1.

I’ve played pretty much every Mortal Kombat game of the modern era. I’ll probably play this one at some point. Looks fine. No sign of Smoke, though, so perhaps I’ll have to wait for Mortal Kombat 2. I’m sure this one will be as fun as all the others.

Mortal Kombat 1 comes out on Sept. 19.

The Mortal Kombat Storyline is Madness

There’s a new Mortal Kombat video game coming out in September and it looks wild. It’s going to be called Mortal Kombat 1, instead of Mortal Kombat 12. The reason for that is because, once again, the universe is starting over from scratch. Because the last game ended with the universe being destroyed and Liu Kang rising to become some sort of cosmic god. It was wild.

And by the nature of these games, they just gotta continue the story.

I think this is just always going to happen. The universe will get reset and they’ll need to start again from the very beginning. Either that, or they need to stop jumping into the future, where classic characters get old and have children. All we want are classic characters, right?

The top of my concerns, of course, is whether or not Smoke is in the game. He’s one of my all-time favorite video game characters, and he’s the only one that matters. I haven’t had a playable Smoke since Mortal Kombat 9. I doubt he’ll be in a game that revives the story at the very beginning, but the website for this new game said there will be something called Kameos, which are support characters who can be called upon in a fight. Maybe Smoke will be one of those? That could be fun.

Mortal Kombat 1 comes out on Sept. 19.

How About Another Animated Mortal Kombat?

I never got around to watching Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. It’s on my hard drive somewhere and perhaps I will one of these days. I definitely should watch it ahead of its brand new sequel. Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.

I definitely want to watch this new film because it has my favorite character, Smoke. That’s all it takes for me to watch. The animation looks really good in these movies. And it’s probably going to be far more accurate to the games and lore than the live action movie we got only a couple of months ago.

HBO should just make an ongoing Mortal Kombat cartoon series. Netflix got a lot of traction out of that awesome Castlevania show. A Mortal Kombat show could run for plenty of seasons, with so many characters. Think about it, HBO Max! You need more foundational shows!

Battle of the Realms comes out on Aug. 31.

6 Things I Hated the Most in the New Mortal Kombat Movie

So here’s the deal: I had a couple of ideas for a Mortal Kombat movie themed List of Six. I could have done one of my usual review lists, like I did for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier last week. I also thought about doing a list of what I’d like to see in a sequel. But after watching the movie twice, once in theaters and once at home, my only real take away from the new Mortal Kombat movie is how much of it sucks.

Movie Rating: 4/10 – Pretty Bad.

Overall, I’d rate the movie as less than average. Parts of it are really cool. They do the fighting well enough, they do the gore very well, a lot of the characters are quality adaptations, and overall I’d rate the movie as a watchable action flick. But man oh man, do they make a lot of stupid character and plot decisions. So much so that those are the only real takeaways I have from Mortal Kombat. What boneheads made these choices?

Join me after the jump for the dumbest things in the Mortal Kombat movie that really stick in my craw. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the movie.

6 Characters I Want to See in the Mortal Kombat Movie

The day will soon be upon us when we have a new live action Mortal Kombat movie to enjoy. The movie has been pretty quiet — until last week, when the first trailer dropped and blew all of our minds! What a great trailer! The Mortal Kombat movie looks pretty damn good!

If they’re on the poster, why aren’t they the stars of the movie?

Even more exciting about the trailer was the number of character cameos sprinkled throughout. We knew the likes of Liu Kang, Sub-Zero and Raiden were going to be in the movie — along with an original character named Cole, for some reason — but we saw glimpses of Reptile, Goro, Nitara and more! How exciting! I love the whole roster of Mortal Kombat characters. It was a geeky obsession of mine when I was a kid. So if this movie does indeed feature a ton of character cameos, I have a few suggestions.

Join me after the jump for the Mortal Kombat characters I really, really, really want to see show up in the new movie!
