Oh, It’s Deadpool. Deadpool is Getting Married
The full teaser wedding picture has been revealed, and it looks like Deadpool is the lucky groom! But personally, I am far more interested in the big picture itself. I definitely want this as a poster. Just look at all the characters!
You’ve got Forbrush Man, Beta Ray Bill, Stringray, Gargoyle, Multiple Man and so many more! It’s a brilliant picture by artist Scott Koblish. That is an achievement, let me tell you. As for Deadpool getting married? Meh, I couldn’t care less. Is anybody reading Deadpool? Is it part of some gag? Or has he seriously fallen in love with somebody? I don’t read Deadpool because he’s just not my kind of humor, but getting married just for the silliness of it sounds like something Marvel would do with the character.

Review: Deadpool, the Game
Holy Chimichangas, they made a Deadpool video game! They haven’t even gotten around to making that Deadpool movie they’re always talking about, and there isn’t anything else coming out to make this game a cash grab tie-in. Marvel and developer High Moon Studios just up and made a Deadpool video game for the sheer hell of it. How cool is that!? We all know how this works. Whenever a superhero movie or cartoon show comes out, some video game developer is hired to make a crummy tie-in game just to make some money. Then the best case scenario is that sometimes those games are mediocre. More often than not, they’re unplayable.
But every so often, once in half a dozen blue moons, a superhero video game is made to stand on its own, and we get a glorious gem like Batman: Arkham City!
And sometimes we get Deadpool, the game.
Who said that?
Game Rating: 6/10 – Pretty Good.
I have good news for Deadpool fans: this game is an absolute perfect adaptation of the character. Comic writer Daniel Way also penned the game, so the same style and humor he brought to the character in the comics is also on the screen. Deadpool is wacky, he’s crude, he breaks the Fourth Wall, he hallucinates and he never stops talking. He’s the Merc with the Mouth, so if you’ve been a fan of the character over the past few years, this game should be fantastic.
But we hate Daniel Way’s Deadpool.
I’ll get to that in a minute. Anyway, even though all of the Deadpoolness in the game is great, the game itself is achingly mediocre. High Moon Studios apparently spent all of their time perfecting the Deadpoolery, then just stapled it to a bare bones hack’n’slasher. The enemies are repetitive and unoriginal, the plot is non-existent, the levels are boring, and the few moments that actually break out of the mold are too short to actually make an impact. That’s not to say any of these things are bad, per se, they’re just bland and uninspired. The game itself is entirely average, but at a short 6 to 7 hours, maybe that’s all you need to enjoy such impressive amounts of Deadpoolocity.
So basically Deadpool, the game, is all about Deadpool. I think they get it.
Either way, join me after the jump for my full review!
I Have Never Hated Deadpool More Than I Do Right Now
Yet I still really want to play his video game. Check out this new trailer which, in my opinion, features some of the worst, most overblown Deadpool comedy I’ve ever experienced.
The game looks pretty cool. And there are some good jokes. But overall, my God, it’s no wonder that most characters find Deadpool incredibly annoying in the comics! Some of those jokes and comedy bits are atrocious! It’s the same reason I dropped the new Deadpool comic book series after one issue. There is a line at which Deadpool’s brand of humor gets really, really grating, and this trailer revels in jumping across that line. Ugh.
Still, the game comes out sometime this summer, and I definitely want to play. I just hope the actual game isn’t as horrendous as that trailer.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/10/12
Marvel NOW! is in full effect with this week’s books, and we get our first looks at the new Iron Man and Deadpool. Sad to say, I wasn’t terribly impressed. Marvel has a big opportunity on their hands with this relaunch. But I have yet to see that potential really come to fruition just yet. Hopefully some of the other upcoming series can really wow me. But at least there are plenty of other good comics still plugging along. I think AvX: Consequences once again seals the Comic of the Week for me. Too bad it’s the final issue of that mini-series.
Weekly Reviews: AvX: Consequences #5, Deadpool #1, Green Lantern #14, Iron Man #1, and Uncanny X-Force #33.
Comedian to Write Deadpool
This has to be the coolest news of Marvel NOW! so far: actual stand-up comedian Brian Posehn is going to write Deadpool.
Posehn will be joined by fellow funnyman Gerry Duggan, with art by Tony Moore. I think that’s just fantastic. I’m all for finding new, unique writers to tackle some of Marvel’s comics, and who better to write Deadpool than someone who is actually funny? And better yet, Posehn is a huge comic book geek. So much so that he played the priest in the Fantastic Four sequel who married Reed and Sue. The guy has geek cred coming out the wazzo.
Will he write a good Deadpool? I don’t know, but I’ve got my hopes up, and am definitely interested in the possibilities. I’ve never been as big a Deadpool fan as the rest of the Internet, but I’m tempted to now pick up issue #1 just to see what Posehn can offer. Will he be as funny on the page as he is on the stage?
My biggest problem with Deadpool is that I don’t like it when he stars in a wacky comedy book. Deadpool himself is already overly wacky and comedic, and it just isn’t all that funny when he’s on wacky and comedic adventures, when everything around him is just like him. Deadpool’s brand of humor works best when he’s the only wacky and comedic element in an otherwise serious story. That’s why I think he works so well in Uncanny X-Force. That way Deadpool’s attitude and personality stand out as something unique and special.
Because if everyone is wacky, then no one is.
