Everybody Loves Abraham Lincoln

This isn’t particularly geeky, but I think Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln is the movie I’m most looking forward to at the end of the year.

There’s just something so prestigious about Daniel Day-Lewis and Steven Spielberg making an Abraham Lincoln biopic. Is there any American historical figure more beloved or more awe-inspiring than Abraham Lincoln? Even though there was that time he suspended Habeas Corpus. Still, he’s much much cooler than George Washington, by far.

And William McKinley can suck it!

The Web Series That Isn’t Inspector Spacetime!

Crikey, Inspector! The first episode is up!

If you haven’t been following along, this is the “Untitled Web Series About a Space Traveler Who Can Also Travel Through Time.” It’s a Doctor Who parody – but a little more complicated than that.

The original parody – called Inspector Spacetime – comes from the TV show Community on NBC. Great show, funny parody. Then the actor who played Inspector Spacetime on Community decided to turn the character into a webseries – except for the fact that he did not own the character of Inspector Spacetime or have permission from Community or NBC to turn their character into a webseries.

The lawyers got involved and put a stop to actor Travis Richey’s plan. But Richey didn’t want to give up on his webseries idea, so he simply changed the name to that much longer name up there. But he’s kept the ‘Inspector’ part, as well as several other ideas/concepts from the Community parody.

So he may not be able to call his webseries ‘Inspector Spacetime’, but Richey’s just gonna go ahead and make it anyway. More power to him, I say! The world needs such a fun Doctor Who parody.

Review: Ultimate Comics: All-New Spider-Man #14

Yep, Brian Michael Bendis wants absolutely nothing to do with the ‘Divided We Fall’ crossover taking place in the rest of the Ultimate Universe. The crossover banner may be emblazoned on the cover, there may be a map in the beginning of the comic detailing the current chaotic state of the country, but you wouldn’t have any idea what the heck is going on based on this issue of Ultimate Spider-Man. This is entirely self-contained. Honestly, reading Ultimate Spider-Man #14, it’s as if nothing has changed anywhere else in the Ultimate Universe.

Ultimate Spider-Man #14

And I am perfectly fine with that! To hell with the rest of the Ultimate Universe and its stupid crossover!

Comic rating: 4/5: Good!

Apparently Captain America went into hiding in the wake of Peter Parker’s death. You wouldn’t know it based on this comic. Cap is a major guest star this issue, but there’s no indication that he left or that his return is a big deal. He’s written exactly as he would have been written had he not taken a major sabbatical. And better yet, Aunt May, Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson are all written the same too. Nobody seems to know or care that the United States doesn’t exist anymore, and that’s great! As long as Miles Morales’ fantastic story isn’t disrupted due to the rest of that crap, I couldn’t be happier. Bendis is writing good comics here. The origin and early adventures of Miles Morales are going to be important for a long time. ‘Divided We Fall’ isn’t even flavor of the month. Nobody’s talking about it. Nobody cares. It’s a dying gasp from a past-its-prime universe.

Give me more of this issue, where Miles finally has a real heart-to-heart with Peter Parker’s supporting cast. Give me dialogue and characterization like this. I’ll take the story of Miles’ first attempt at web-swinging over some dumb, overblown crossover any day of the week.

Join me after the jump for a full synopsis and more review! And Miles’ first web-swinging!

There Should Have Been a Heart Village in The Last Airbender

Of all the elements and their equivalent continents in Avatar: The Last Airbender, there should have been a Heart Village. Tucked all the way down in some corner of the world, maybe on an island all of its own, the Aang Gang should have run into some heart-benders for an episode.

The Power of Love!

This is a silly idea, I know, but I think it’s one of my better fan ideas.

The four elements of Avatar: The Last Airbender are Earth, Fire, Wind and Water. They even call it ‘earth-bending’ instead of dirt-bending, rock-bending, ground-bending or anything else. And we don’t even know if their planet is called ‘Earth’. But does the phrase ‘Earth, Fire, Wind and Water’ sound familiar to anyone else?

Ma-Ti was always the coolest one

Exactly!

It would have been the greatest geek reference in the history of television. A Captain Planet Easter Egg in the middle of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

And there is still time with Legend of Korra.

Well Hello There…
