The Top 6 Fishiest Mer-Ladies in Comics

The live action Little Mermaid movie comes out this weekend and I have decided to do a List of Six about mer-ladies. Not mermaids, unfortunately. I thought I could find six superhero mermaids in comics, but it was not to be. There need to be more mermaid superheroes. But I digress! There are still more than enough underwater superhero ladies to make a list. They don’t all need a fish tail.

She’s gonna sing good song

I don’t think it’s weird at all that both Marvel and DC have their own aquatic hero: Aquaman and Namor. It makes sense to me. The ocean is cool. Atlantis is cool. Then both comic companies went ahead and started giving both characters tons of sidekicks. And in honor of The Little Mermaid, we’re going to look at the lady sidekicks in particular. And then, surprise surprise, they’re not just Aquaman or Namor sidekicks on this list. I did find some comic book mermaids to throw in, for fun!

So join me after the jump for a list that I wish was exclusively about superhero mermaids, but I had to make some concessions.

Curiosity Killed the George

Joel Haver is a funny dude and I’m glad I found his videos on YouTube. Each one has been pretty darn hilarious, and he’s got a new banger out! This one is about Curious George. No spoilers.

Just damn funny. Inventive, clever, witty, silly and just plain fun, as far as I’m concerned. And I’m a comedic genius! Enjoy this video, and if you haven’t yet, feel free to go back in his history for some other great animated joke videos. You won’t be disappointed.

A Fun New Tenacious D Music Video

I spent the entirety of my vacation playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, so I am big into video games at the moment. I barely scratched the surface of what that game has to offer, so I’ll be playing it for a long time to come. Can’t wait! And in honor of video games, Tenacious D put out this fun new, animated music video.

It’s Monday, let’s rock out with Tenacious D. The animation is so adorable and well done! And the song is a hoot. So I would say a good time was had by all.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/20/23

What a difference a vacation makes! I’ve been off from work this whole past week, and I have spent most of my week playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. No time was wasted. I did get some cleaning done, and I read a whole bunch of comics. Seriously, so many comics from my reading list came out this week that I had to cut a few! We’ve got Power Rangers, She-Hulk, Superman, X-Men and even Fantastic Four #700!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Avengers #1 for an excellent start to a new series. The same could also be said for Titans #1, which is also an excellent start to a new team book. Jeez louise, this was a packed week!

Giant robots must die

Meanwhile, like I said, I’ve been enjoying Tears of the Kingdom. I’m taking my time to just wander around and explore, and watching all those YouTube videos on 10 secrets the game won’t tell you, or crazy construction projects. It’s all around fun! Beyond that…I haven’t done much else noteworthy this vacation. Lotta things I planned to get to that I didn’t. A real shame. Anyway, back to Zelda.

Comic Reviews: Avengers #1, Fantastic Four #700, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #108, She-Hulk #13, Superman #4, Titans #1 and X-Men #22.

The Mortal Kombat Storyline is Madness

There’s a new Mortal Kombat video game coming out in September and it looks wild. It’s going to be called Mortal Kombat 1, instead of Mortal Kombat 12. The reason for that is because, once again, the universe is starting over from scratch. Because the last game ended with the universe being destroyed and Liu Kang rising to become some sort of cosmic god. It was wild.

And by the nature of these games, they just gotta continue the story.

I think this is just always going to happen. The universe will get reset and they’ll need to start again from the very beginning. Either that, or they need to stop jumping into the future, where classic characters get old and have children. All we want are classic characters, right?

The top of my concerns, of course, is whether or not Smoke is in the game. He’s one of my all-time favorite video game characters, and he’s the only one that matters. I haven’t had a playable Smoke since Mortal Kombat 9. I doubt he’ll be in a game that revives the story at the very beginning, but the website for this new game said there will be something called Kameos, which are support characters who can be called upon in a fight. Maybe Smoke will be one of those? That could be fun.

Mortal Kombat 1 comes out on Sept. 19.
