New World of Warcraft Expansion Revealed – Warlords of Draenor

The moment I get out, they drag me back in! I’ve been Warcraft free for a few months now, but here already comes the next expansion!

Personally, I didn’t care much for what I see in that trailer. For those of you who don’t know, Draenor is the ancient homeworld of the orcs and draenei, two of the game’s playable races. But Draenor was destroyed and exists in the game now as Outland, a barren wasteland on the other side of the Dark Portal. So it looks like this new game is going to feature time travel to some degree.

But it’s not going to feature any new playable races or classes. Basically it just looks like we’re going to get a bunch of new quests and places to visit, and considering I mostly play WoW for the lore, this expansion might not be for me. Though I do like the idea of improved character models. Still, I’ll keep my eye on things to see where they go.

World of Warcraft Knows How to Make a Villain

The final patch for the WoW expansion Mists of Pandaria is coming out…soon? I think? To prepare, the good people at Blizzard put together this neat little trailer for the Siege of Orgrimmar! I love the animation in these things.

Would it have been too much to have Thrall show up at the end? Still, awesome trailer. The WoW animations just look fantastic, I think. And that is definitely a successful build-up to the big bad guy.

For those who don’t know, the villain there is Garrosh Hellscream, the current and corrupt Warchief of the Horde. After discovering the lost continent of Pandaria, Hellscream went power mad and unlocked the dark secrets of the continent, in order to turn them into weapons to take over the world. Now it will be up to the players to band together and assault the Horde capital of Orgrimmar, which has been one of the game’s major locations since World of Warcraft began. So basically this is a pretty big deal.

It may also mark the end of my current run of WoW…at least until the next expansion.

The 6 Best Pop Culture Characters in World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft is a game for geeks made by geeks. And there are few things we geeks love more than pop culture references. Heck, it’s one of the reasons Family Guy is still on the air. Whether it’s a Simpsons quote, a cleverly used song lyric, or taking something up to 11, pop culture references are the back bone of, well, pop culture. So it should come as no surprise that World of Warcraft is filled to the brim with pop culture references. Seriously, they made a list.

Make love, not Warcraft

The best references, in my opinion, are the characters who are designed and named after other pop culture characters. There are tens of thousands of characters in World of Warcraft, from dragon warlords to murloc fishermen to orc janitors. The game is bursting with digital life. And if you know where to look, and check every nook and cranny, you might just find some of the clever pop culture characters, little in-jokes from those geeks to us geeks. Here are my six favorite!

It’s Way Past Time We Had a Warcraft 3 Reunion in World of Warcraft

My favorite thing about playing World of Warcraft is how intricately the developers have tied their MMO into the Warcraft games that came before. When they were building their virtual world, Blizzard didn’t just start from scratch; they dug into all of the games, novels and comic books that had come before and pulled out all sorts of people, places, weapons and dungeons to populate the World of Warcaft. Remember when you invaded Medivh’s dungeon way back in the very first game? Well now you can go quest there again and walk around its haunted halls. Or what about Khelgar, the sorcerer who helped you close the Dark Portal in Warcraft 2? Now you can go visit him for a chat and see how he’s doing.

Believe me, I could go on and on about all of the characters and places from the early games that are now sprinkled throughout the World of Warcraft. But instead, I want to draw your attention to three very specific characters who I think need to reunite and do something incredibly awesome.

I’m speaking, of course, about Rexxar, Rokhan and Chen Stormstout, champions of the Horde!

Or the Three Hordeketeers!

After the latest expansion, Mists of Pandaria, launched in September, all three characters are finally in World of Warcraft; but they have nothing to do with one another, and couldn’t be farther apart! One of them is, literally, on a different planet! But the important thing is that Rexxar, Rokhan and Chen are all finally in the game. So clearly it’s only a matter of time before they get the band back together, right? Surely I can’t be the only one who wants to see this badass team of heroes reunite?

Join me after the jump to find out who the hell I’m talking about and why this is one of the coolest Warcraft events nearly 10 years in the making!
