6 Video Games That Need to Make a Comeback

Video games have become an industry of repetition. Every major sport has several new licensed video games coming out every year. Gamers everywhere salivate at the coming of the next Call of Duty or Medal of Honor. The granddaddy of video gaming, Nintendo, has built its reputation on bringing back Mario, Link, Donkey Kong and more year after year for game after game. Sequels rule the roost even more than in Hollywood.

But somehow, amidst all this madness, some of the greatest games of all time fall by the wayside. Brilliant concepts, amazing gameplay and truly unique and original ideas get tossed in the garbage so that the tried and true sequels can keep going.

This is never going to happen no matter what

I’m no expert on how the industry works. Maybe the studios close for financial reasons. Maybe the licensing rights expire. Maybe it’s some kind of dark sorcery. All I know is that there were some pretty amazing video games in my youth that desperately need to be updated for today’s market. They need to come back, embrace the better graphics and game engines, and blow our fragile little minds all over again. Here are 6 video games that I think are overdue for a triumphant return!

Wanna Know a Good Game? The Witcher.

Last year, a friend of mine convinced me to try The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, an RPG on the PC that was getting good word-of-mouth. I took a chance and absolutely loved the game! It’s got gorgeous graphics, a cool, mature storyline, and great real-time combat for an RPG. I was not disappointed.

So hooray! The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming!

I put the full weight of my hopefully sterling reputation behind The Witcher games. I never played the first one, but the sequel was a fantastic single-player RPG. Plus I didn’t really need to know the first game’s story to catch up. I can only hope the threequel will be even better, with improved graphics, an open world and no doubt other forms of awesomeness. If you’re looking for a good, solid RPG with character choices, fun magic, great combat and some mature storytelling, I highly recommend The Witcher 2.

Plus it’s been out for awhile, so I bet it’s cheap these days.

Even Newer South Park: The Stick of Truth Trailer!

E3 continues to rattle on without me there, because I guess someone forgot to send an invite out to the lone, independent blogger who sometimes writes about video games. There are a ton of trailers coming out, but I’m going to stick to the games I’m super excited about. Yesterday we had Batman, now we have South Park: The Stick of Truth!

Sweet!

Even Newer Batman: Arkham Origins Trailer!

The video game conference E3 is in full swing, and the first bit of news I’ve snagged is a new trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins. It purports to show a little gameplay, but it’s so stylized there’s not much to see. Mostly it’s just cool new footage and story beats.

Plus the Joker. Joker is definitely in the game.

I like the trailer, but it just feels like there’s something off about the whole thing. I don’t know what, though. Possibly the fact that Rocksteady isn’t the one making the game. That leaves a sour taste in my mouth. But perhaps I’m just being pessimistic. All indications are that this will be another awesome chapter in this franchise…only without Robin.

A Little Live Action Smash Bros to Brighten Your Day

I’ve come to the conclusion that I need more computer graphics skills and more friends willing to act out live action video games or comic books. I could spend all day writing and creating awesome videos like these to give back to the Internet that I have lovingly embraced. But then, if I was making videos like these, what would pwnisher do? Probably the same thing, and the world would be an awesome place.
