6 Things I Hate That Everybody Else Loves
A couple months ago, I wrote a List of Six about things I love that everybody else seems to hate. A few of you suggested in the comments that I do the reverse list, so here we are. But this list was much harder to put together. ‘Hate’ is a much stronger word than ‘Love’, and I’m just not a hateful guy. I’m mostly apathetic to things I don’t like, especially when it comes to pop culture. Sure there are things in this world that I hate, like having to scrape off my car windshield on an icy morning or when my Internet connection dies.
Or peas, I absolutely hate peas. Worst food in the world!
But this is a pop culture blog, and I want to keep it that way. So I racked my brain and tried to think of six things in pop culture that I hate but everybody else seems to love. And it can’t just be things that are popular or successful that I hate. I despise the cult of celebrity that surrounds the Kardashians, but they remain popular – but they’re only popular to that certain cult of people. Most of us would readily agree that the Kardashians are terrible. So they don’t count.
I think I’ve got a solid list. Here are 6 things that I hate that most people, especially my fellow geeks, seem to love.
I apologize in advance if I start going on some vicious rants. And as always, please feel free to share some of your own hates in the comments!
How to Spend My Day Avoiding Walking Dead Spoilers
I don’t watch any TV at the moment it airs, instead DVRing until later when I can watch it on my own time with friends. As such, I find myself having to avoid all of my favorite geek news websites today, and Facebook, because any or all of them could reveal spoilers for last night’s episode of The Walking Dead. Who lives? Who dies? What happens at Terminus?! One of my favorite sites had spoilers for the fate of Shane on the front page for a week straight! So today is going to be a tough day!
Fortunately, I discovered this game 2048 last night, and it’s pretty neat!
You’ve got to swipe the numbers around the board, and any like numbers that bump into each other will combine and multiply. You’ve got to keep going until you can get some to multiply to the number ‘2048’. I have yet to succeed. But it’s a good way to spend my day avoiding Walking Dead spoilers!
Unless this is some kind of elaborate trap, and the spoilers will just start seeping through the game…and when I finally reach 2048, I’ll be rewarded with the spoilers of who died last night! No…no…they’re coming! They’re coming!!

Literal Titanfall Trailer
Anybody playing Titanfall? I want to, but I sadly don’t think my computer specs are up to snuff anymore for new games. I need to get an upgrade…an expensive upgrade! But I hear good things, and, of course, Tobuscus writes good songs.
Batman: Arkham Knight is On the Way!
The next game in the Batman: Arkham series was announced today, and it sounds like a hum-dinger! There aren’t too many details just yet about Batman: Arkham Knight, but it’s once again going to be made by Rocksteady Games, and it’s going to feature a drivable Batmobile. That sounds pretty neat.
Check out this badass trailer too!
The released information reveals that Arkham Knight will be the finale to the franchise – though I can’t imagine DC and Warner Bros. will want to give up on such a popular, money-earning title. Rocksteady has said it’s their last game, but the people who made Arkham Origins may make some more games. That’s for the future to decide.
Here’s the game description:
In the explosive finale to the Arkham series, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect. The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever.
Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady’s uniquely designed version of the Batmobile, which is drivable for the first time in the franchise. The addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Batman Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City.
Be The Batman.
Right this moment, the story doesn’t sound all that impressive. All of this villains have appeared before, and we can probably all assume that the Joker will pop up somewhere. Remember when we all thought Black Mask was going to be the big bad guy in Arkham Origins? Yeah, I assume a similar twist is going to happen here, and the story will once again be Batman vs. the Joker.
But we’ll see.
Hopefully Rocksteady has more in mind for Arkham Knight than a drivable Batmobile. They claim we’ll get to fight crime in the ‘entirety of Gotham City’, requiring the Batmobile to get around. That sounds good to me. Considering how big Arkham Origins was, how much bigger can they go?
I don’t have a release date yet, other than sometime in 2014, and the game has been confirmed as Next Gen only, so I might have to miss this one – unless Arkham Knight is so good that it is the game that finally pushes me into buying next gen.
And, of course, no word yet on Robin. But he survived Arkham City and Harley Quinn’s Revenge, so surely he’s going to show up, right? Right!?
Also, it would be nice to see some of my other suggestions for future Arkham games added into the mix.
Sound off in the comments to let me know what you folks think!
GLADOS works for NASA now
GLADOS goes to work for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and it’s both funny and educational. She only educates a pair of NASA employees about the differences between nuclear fusion and fission, but I could listen to her talk about anything and be entertained.
