How About Some DC Trailers for Once?

I’m not just all about the Marvel, people! I like DC stuff too! At least when they deliver good stuff! For example, I’m pretty excited by this trailer for the second season of Titans. I enjoyed the first season, especially all the awesome, live action Robin stuff. Season 2 seems to be taking us closer to Nightwing!

And, thankfully, we’ve got a Bruce Wayne for Dick Grayson to bounce off of. It was really frustrating when all of Dick Grayson’s seminal moments growing up were alone instead of with Bruce/Batman.

The new season starts on Sept. 6 — my birthday!

There’s also a new trailer for the Joker movie. I am less excited about this one.

As I’ve mentioned plenty of times before, I just don’t care about the Joker. And a movie about the Joker without Batman? I dunno…Granted, I’ll go see it opening day, because that’s the sort of person I am. But this trailer isn’t getting me too excited. Seems like just a crazy movie about a guy going crazy who happens to be the Joker.

But we’ll see! Maybe it’ll be really good. Joker arrives in theaters on Oct. 4.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/24/19

What a roller coaster week for comic book fans! In the same week that we lose Spider-Man in the MCU (for now), we also learn that we’re getting Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk in the MCU! Honestly, I’m OK with that trade, though I’m confident Disney and Sony will return to the bargaining table. Spider-Man isn’t even part of Phase 4, so there’s plenty of time.

At least this week’s comics were pretty great! Batman, Jimmy Olsen, Iron Man, Valkyrie; all quality comics. But I’m going to give Comic Book of the Week to Powers of X #3 for a twist that gives this event a nice shot to the arm as we near the midway point.

Powers of XMen 01

And just for an instant, Xorn is cool

Meanwhile, I may give up on Guardians of the Galaxy for now. I’ve always been lukewarm about this comic. It’s fine and enjoyable, and clearly well written, but it hasn’t really been doing anything for me, personally. The latest issue is mostly a recap of Rocket Raccoon’s origins, coupled with what turns out to be a really lame reason why everybody hates Rocket. Maybe I’ll keep trying going forward, but based on solicitations for November, Beta Ray Bill might be moving on to a new Annihilation story anyway.

Of course, that comic is written by Matthew Rosenberg, killer of superheroes, so maybe Bill’s inclusion is a bad sign.

Comic Reviews: Batman #77, Jimmy Olsen #2, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #6, Powers of X #3, Tony Stark – Iron Man #15 and Valkyrie #2.

Titans is Adding a Bunch of New Stuff to Season 2!

I enjoyed the first season of Titans on the DC streaming service. It treated the characters well, had a good story and presented the best live action Robin we’ve ever had. That counts for a lot with me. Well season 2 is on the way!

That’s a pretty rushed trailer, but there’s still a lot to show off. More Robin! Jason Todd! A cooler looking Raven! Bruce freakin’ Wayne, finally! Maybe we’ll even get Nightwing.

It’s a good show. I’m excited for seasons 2!

Teen Titans vs. Teen Titans!

The next DC animated movie is going to be Teen Titans Go! vs. the classic Teen Titans! The first trailer is here and it looks hilariously awesome!

I’m a huge fan of Teen Titans Go! I know a lot of classic Titans fans hate it, but nuts to them! Teen Titans Go! is hilarious and a lot of fun. And they know exactly how to get in their digs, which this entire movie seems to be about. I love when the show does that, and I hope to love what we’re going to see next!

I Love Me Some Robins!

Longtime Henchies know that I’m a big fan of Robin. He’s one of my all-time favorite superheroes. And now animated fun guy Noah Sterling has used his nifty YouTube channel to run through the history of all the Robins. Fun times!

Yeah, the history of the Robins is weird. But fundamentally, Robin is awesome. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Also, since this video was made, I think DC is retconning their retcon and Stephnie Brown did serve as Robin. It’s confusing, but important to note.

Double also, while I’m on the subject, I’m starting to wonder if my disinterest in DC Comics as a whole these days has anything to do with the lack of a fundamental Robin. The team of Batman and Robin hasn’t been a thing for a while now. Damian Wayne is, technically, the current Robin, but he hasn’t been his father’s sidekick for years. He’s off running the Teen Titans and hanging out with Superman’s son. Tim Drake has been retconned back to being Robin, but he’s also been his own man for a while, and now he’s running Young Justice. Duke Thomas became Batman’s new partner, but DC went and gave him super-powers and made him The Signal instead, and now he’s a member of the Outsiders.

So DC simply does not have a Batman and Robin team, which is really disappointing. As much as I love Robin, I mostly love him in the context of being Batman’s partner. So I dunno, I think I’m just griping. Fun video, at least.
