Time to Remember What Happened in Dune 1

I never read the Dune books and have zero memory of that TV mini-series that I know I watched once upon a time. So I really only mildly cared for that big Dune: Part 1 movie a few years ago. It was big, it was pretty, but it was just Part 1 and that was a stinker. Welp, Part 2 is coming later this year! I’ll need to find an internet recap video so that I’m prepared.

Looks pretty good. Looks a lot more personable, with a lot more emotion and actual character development. I’m all for that. The CGI looks great, the characters look like fun, there are some weird black and white sequences that are clearly gonna be a trip. Looks like an overall quality time at the theater, hopefully. And then we can all have future Dune watch parties that are 6 hours long.

Dune: Part 2 comes to theaters on Nov. 3.

6 Characters I’m Willing to Let Die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is coming out this week and I am very excited! It’s gonna be a blast, and I even took the day off from work so that I can go to the early Thursday afternoon showing in my local theater! But the awesomeness comes with some bittersweetness, as this will be our last adventure with these Guardians. James Gunn is moving on to other pastures and has said he’s done. So even if Marvel continues the franchise, it’s going to be entirely different, probably.

And everybody is pretty sure that a lot of Guardians are going to die

What a bunch of a-holes

Now, I don’t want anybody to die. I don’t require character deaths to give a movie stakes or real emotion. But death is probably inevitable in this movie for someone. So who could I handle dying? If somebody has to die, will I be OK if certain characters bite the dust over others? I’m going to have to be! This might be a morbid list, but fate has brought us to this point, and some of these characters are going to have to face the music.

Join me after the jump for the six characters I’m willing to have die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Disney: The Last Wish

Disney Animation has revealed their first look at their next movie, Wish, which I think is about the magic of Disney making a wish upon a star. Just like how Puss in Boots made a wish upon a star?! I kid. But so far, this teaser looks pretty generic. Heroin, villain, animal sidekick.

They even included the little star dude from the Mario movie!

Still kidding. Anyway, I’m a big fan of Disney animation in recent years. Encanto was great! I don’t remember what they did after Encanto…oh right, Strange World! Yeah, Strange World was fine. So we’re just gonna have to hope — rightfully so — that Wish will also be fine. That’s my hope, at least. Or perhaps it’s my…wish?

Anyway, Wish comes to theaters on Nov. 22.

No Silverbolt in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

I kid. Silverbolt is my favorite Maximal, but there’s no sign of him in the new Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer. That’s fine. I’ll make due! There’s a new trailer, and it all looks big and explosive. The beasts seem to be secondary to the whole thing, but perhaps they’ll find a way to make them cool.

Why is this movie set in the mid-90s? Are they trying to stick to some weird continuity still? Like, the Bumblebee movie and then this one take place before the previous movies from the 2000s? Why stick to that continuity? Why stick to any continuity at this point? Just churn these things out! Anyway, this thing should be some degree of fun.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will come out on June 9, which isn’t too far away.

A Couple of Neat Movie Trailers

It’s movie trailer Thursday! That can be a thing, right? It’s Thursday, some fun movie trailers came out yesterday, possibly through CinemaCon. And I figured I would share. I like movie trailers. You like movie trailers. The world goes around.

First up is Next Goal Wins, the new film from Taika Waititi. It’s a soccer movie set in America Somoa. I guess it was filmed several years ago, and then had some reshoots, and now it’s finally coming out. Great! I love Taika Waititi movies!

Looks like fun. Some solid Taika comedy alongside an underdog sports movie. Sounds good to me.

Next Goal Wins comes out on Nov. 17.

Next up is A Haunting in Venice, the next part of Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot series. I liked Murder on the Orient Express. I thought A Death on the Nile was pretty mediocre. But I’m all for more of these. There are surely plenty of Poirot mysteries to adapt, right? And if Branagh wants to do it, I say let him.

Looks fine to me! Are ghosts real in the Poirot stories? Probably not, but I’m sure he’ll be fine on this murder mystery.

A Haunting in Venice comes to theaters on Sept. 15.
