You Won’t Like Him When He’s Drunk
Yet another day, yet another Avengers parody trailer. This one modeled after The Hangover, made by the guys and gals at Slick Gigolo! It’s pretty funny, I highly recommend watching, enjoying and perhaps even laughing.
More Hulk Movies? Yes, Please!
Despite what the world at large may think, I actually really enjoyed both Incredible Hulk movies so far. I liked Ang Lee’s Hulk in 2003, and then Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk in 2008. Only the latter is officially part of The Avengers franchise. Still, they were both good movies, in my opinion.
Well word has it that Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk absolutely steals the show in The Avengers! Which has prompted one of the Marvel execs to tell Forbes magazine that a new Hulk movie may be in the works if his popularity takes off.
The exec is Paul Gitter, who is in charge of merchandising, which is a pretty big gig. Though personally, I haven’t bought a single Avengers toy or action figure. They’re all kind of lame. Plus there haven’t been any good Hulk toys. Most toy companies have done away with the standard action figures. Now all superhero action figures are the size of the old G.I.Joes, which just doesn’t interest me. I want me a badass Incredible Hulk action figure, dammit!
Anyway, here’s what Gitter had to say about the Hulk:
Marvel executives have been “pleasantly surprised by the phenomenal response” to this green superhero, and expect this fan affinity to further strengthen once the movie opens. “His sales are up in a major way. We repositioned him from where he was always misunderstood to now depicting him in a more heroic and aspirational manner,” says Gitter. If Hulk’s successful turnaround continues, Gitter says Marvel “will spin him off to a stand-alone program next year,” supported by a big budget franchise movie in 2015.
The stand-alone program he mentions is the TV show being produced for ABC by Guilermo del Toro, which could be awesome. Having a TV show fit into The Avengers movie universe would be incredibly badass. But a new Hulk movie in 2015 would also be good. Mark Ruffalo has also said that he’s sign to a 6-picture deal with Marvel. That’s a lot of movies.
As excited as I am for The Avengers this Friday, I’m especially excited to see the Hulk in action. He’s the character I’m looking forward to most.
Jason Aaron Answers My Toad Question on Twitter!
Score one for my brother!
If you saw my post earlier today about Toad, you may have also seen my brother’s suggestion to just use Twitter and ask the creators who changed Toad why they did it. I hadn’t taken that step on my own because I considered the issue to be just my rant on my blog, plus I haven’t totally embraced the Twitter machine when it comes to interacting with celebrity types.
But I guess it’s totally a thing. I may have to start doing more of it.
At any rate, I asked Wolverine and the X-Men writer Jason Aaron why he changed Toad back into his uglier form. This was the reply:
So that was pretty cool. It was definitely the reason I thought for the change. Plus he said we’ll see even more Toad later this year. Fantastic! More Toad is a good thing. Aaron has been doing a fantastic job with Toad as a supporting character in his comic.
What the Heck is Happening to Toad?
I don’t know if anybody else has noticed – or even cares, frankly – but the X-Men character Toad has been quietly turning into a goblin.
What’s up with that?
Alright, the answer is probably very obvious. I just don’t happen to like it. I’m a big fan of Toad, and all of his Brotherhood of Mutants cohorts. They’re probably my favorite villain team in all of comics. And I’ve absolutely loved Toad’s storyline over the past few years. That he’s now the janitor at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning is the perfect place for Toad in the current X-Men status quo. I’m loving him in Jason Aaron’s Wolverine and the X-Men.
But why, oh why, does he have to go back to looking like a little goblin, ogre, thingy?
I much prefer his more human-looking movie makeover. At least then I can take him seriously. And Toad deserves to be taken seriously. Join me for more after the jump. Though I should warn you, this is basically a silly little rant about an entirely aesthetic problem. But it’s my personal opinion on a matter, and that’s what my blog is for: ranting my personal opinion on comic book matters. Plus it gives me a chance to talk about Toad. How many other people on the Internet would ever bother to talk about Toad? Exactly.
Avengers the Boy Band
There are so many good Avengers parody videos coming out this week. I have more than enough material to make the funny as we await the US release of the film. Those geniuses over at IGN created this hilarious Boy Band video, which is worth a watch. They also posted their review of the movie, and gave The Avengers a 9/10. So by all indications, all the reviews I’ve been reading, this movie is going to be as awesome as we’re all hoping. Don’t worry, that review is spoiler free. Go ahead and read.
And then watch their video!
