Captain America, F*ck Yeah!
They did it with the first Captain America film, and now the Internet has done it with the second: clips from the new Cap 2 trailer set to the famous song ‘America, F*ck Yeah’ from Team America: World Police.
Things like this are why I love the collective, creative spirit of the Internet.
First Trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier Hits All the Right Beats!
The first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier hit the Internet today, and it is awesome in ways I had not predicted.
Oh man, I really liked that trailer! It’s action-packed, but it’s focus is clearly on Steve Rogers, and I think that’s great. His line, “That isn’t freedom, that’s fear” was fantastic! I hope the movie has a lot of that in it. At the same time, both the Falcon and the Winter Soldier seem almost arbitrary to the political action, which I like more. So we’ll see how it all pans out. Captain America 2 has definitely started out on the right foot.
6 Things I Want to See in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been out for five weeks now, and so far, opinions are mixed. I think everybody can agree that the show is well put together, but a lot of my friends and online critics are waffling over whether or not it’s any good. Personally, I’m liking the show, but I can recognize that it’s not very exciting yet. It’s mildly entertaining at best. If this were just a normal procedural and not connected to the Marvel Universe, I probably would have stopped watching a long time ago.
But for exactly that Marvel connection, I’m not about to give up on it anytime soon. This is a weekly, live action TV show produced by Joss Whedon about the Marvel Universe. That is a sentence that none of us thought possible only a few short years ago. Other than a Firefly revival, what else could we possibly want from a Whedon TV show? So I’m sticking with Agents of SHIELD without regret. We’re only five episodes in, so that’s no time to judge the overall quality of a show. But just because I’m me, here are six suggestions for improving Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
New Captain America 2 Poster Reveals That Cap Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Parachutes
The first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier is due out in two days (apparently), so Marvel have started the festivities early with the reveal of the first teaser poster! In it, Captain America plainly doesn’t mind standing on an open airplane cargo bay door, mocking the very idea of gravity.
Unless he plans to use his shield like a parachute, which, of course, would be badass.
I’ll post the trailer here as soon as it’s online on Thursday, so stay tuned! I know I’m excited. Also, how cool is it that Marvel is releasing a Captain America movie on the Fourth of July? Thank you, America, for allowing this to happen. That’s possibly going to be the most American Fourth of July of all time! And I say that without a shred of hyperbole or historical accuracy!
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/19/13
It is with great disappointment that we read comics this week, because the final issue of J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman’s Batwoman has come out. These geniuses were building up a battle between Batwoman and Batman himself, and we get one single issue to tease their story before their famous walk out goes into effect. And the issue is damn good. In fact, Batwoman #24 wins Comic Book of the Week for me because of the skill and fun with which they set up this fight. This is going to rank up with J. Michael Straczynski’s run on Thor in terms of comic book runs that ended too soon. Same with Straczynski’s Supreme Power…man, that guy really can’t seem to finish a comic.
Batwoman sadness aside, we’ve got some good issues of Infinity, Lights Out and Battle of the Atom, since Big Event crossovers are all the rage these days. We’ve also got the return of Hawkeye after a long hiatus, so that’s a plus. But for my money, nothing beats Batwoman this week.
Comic Reviews: Avengers #21, New Avengers #11, Batwoman #24, Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion #1, Green Lantern: New Guardians #24, Hawkeye #13, Uncanny X-Men #13 and Wonder Woman #24.
