Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/13/15
The final weekend to pre-order Gamer Girl & Vixen is in full swing, and we’ve almost hit our first stretch goal! If you’d like to get your own copy of my comic, now’s the time!
But besides that, we’ve got other comics to talk about this week too! DC continues to try and re-invent their image, and so far they’ve been pretty successful! I loved the new Batman introduced this week, and the new Starfire comic is off to a good start. Over at Marvel, Secret Wars continues to dominate, but I’ve squeaked out reviews for Silver Surfer and Silk.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #41 for a fantastic introduction to the new, armored Batman. Bring on the robot!
Now I can’t wait to read We Are Robin!
Over at Word of the Nerd, I continue my Secret Wars coverage with a review of Ghost Racers #1. It’s a nifty little comic, though nothing to write home about.
Comic Reviews: Batman #41, Harley Quinn #17, Silk #5, Silver Surfer #12 and Starfire #1.
More Ant-Man Niftiness!
There’s a new Ant-Man mini-trailer/TV spot hitting the Internet today, to go along with some neat new posters that tie the character to the Avengers. I like the new spot, I like the new posters, so I’ma gonna share’em with y’all!
I hope you’re looking forward to Ant-Man as much as I am. It’s a month away! Or a month and a week. Just too long a time, really.

X-Men Floating Hands Continues to Tease 2007!
Thanks to wogoat, I was reminded that the Floating Hands X-Men parodies are coming out with new episodes! They’re stuck parodying Messiah Complex though, which was a storyline all the way back in 2007. It’s really odd. This parody is so specific to the events and characters of Messiah Complex that I almost didn’t get all the jokes and references! But I know my X-Men, so I was fine.
There’s a special whit and charm to these cartoons. No wonder my friends and I still sometimes quote them. And the next episode is coming along shortly!

The Punisher is Coming to Daredevil!
We all thought it was going to be Bullseye (and maybe it still is), but Marvel threw us a curveball today by announcing the casting of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, the Punisher! He’s going to clash with Daredevil in season 2 next year!
This is pretty exciting news! We were all hoping that Punisher would show up on Netflix. He’s perfect for his own gritty, hard-hitting series! So maybe his appearance next year could be a backdoor pilot for his own show! That would be great beyond imagining!
As long as they just film Garth Ennis’ Punisher MAX…
As for Bernthal, I’m sure he’ll be fine in the role. I really only know him from the first season of The Walking Dead, where he played Shane. But that was like four or five years ago, so I don’t remember anything about him. But I’m sure he’ll do fine!

Brian Michael Bendis to Turn Iron Man Into a Star!
Iron Man is going to be in comic books! The biggest movie star of the past decade is going to have his very own, mainlining comic book, written by one of the best writers in the industry. But then I’m being a little facetious. One of the first major comics of the All-New, All-Different Marvel relaunch in September will be Invincible Iron Man by Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Marquez, the team from Ultimate Spider-Man!
Bendis and Marquez were great together on the adventures of Miles Morales, so you better believe I’ll be picking up this new series. Based on the interview in USA Today, Marvel wants to make Iron Man the star of their comic book universe in the same way that he’s the star of the movieverse. That makes total sense to me. They tried that off-kilter Superior Iron Man for a bit, and I don’t know if it worked or not, but it was definitely off the beaten path. Now we’re going back to a more traditional, streamlined and hopefully awesome Iron Man.
I still fondly remember Matt Fraction’s Invincible Iron Man, which was also made to coincide with the movies. That was the first ongoing Iron Man comic I ever bought, and I bought and read the whole thing, it was that good! So I have high hopes for this new series.
