6 Thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine (Review)

The Marvel Universe is back, baby! Is what I would say if I were into saying silly things like that. At the very least, Deadpool and Wolverine are back, and that’s good enough. I’m a big fan of the first two Deadpool movies, I’m a lukewarm fan of all those Fox X-Men movies, and I’m a huge fan of the MCU movies, so I went into Deadpool & Wolverine very excited. The movie only sort of disappointed.

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good

Yep, I’m one of those people who didn’t completely and absolutely love Deadpool & Wolverine. I’ll obviously explain why in the thoughts below, but mostly the abundance of cameos/Easter Eggs did not outweigh the crummy story/plot. I thought the performances were great and had fun with the cameos, but they alone do not make a movie — especially since some were either already spoiled for me months ago or some were just predictable.

A surprise cameo just isn’t very fun when my reaction is, “Oh OK, so they went with him/her, gotcha.”

At any rate, let’s get this review underway! Join me after the jump for my full review and thoughts on Deadpool & Wolverine. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the whole movie and all the cameos/Easter Eggs. And feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.

The 6 Characters in My Dark X-Men (From the Ashes)

Happy Comic-Con, everyone! The greatest comic book show on Earth is taking place in San Diego this week, and once again, I’m not there. Someday I’ll go, when I’m old and gray and can’t walk good. But until then, I’ll keep alive my tradition of posting a dream comic book team roster! Because it’s just plain fun.

This year I’m doing my Dark X-Men team pitch for the new From the Ashes relaunch.

Dress code is very lax

I do this every year because I love thinking up superhero comics. Someday I’ll get to pitch a team book to Marvel or DC or real, and I’ll have all of these past years to look back on. Last year I did the Legion of Super-Heroes, and I’ve previously done the Brotherhood, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Thunderbolts, the Justice League, the main X-Men, the Fantastic Four and more Dream Rosters. It’s a fun game!

This year is my pitch for a From the Ashes comic. In the wake of the Krakoa Era of the X-Men, Marvel has relaunched with a back-to-basics approach. We’ve got the X-Men, the Uncanny X-Men, a new X-Factor, a new X-Force; all sorts of comics! If I could go back in time and pitch Marvel editorial on a From the Ashes comic, it would be the Dark X-Men you’ll see below!

Join me after the jump for the six characters I would put together in a Dark X-Men comic for From the Ashes!

6 One-Off Movies That Don’t Need a Legacy Sequel

Last week we got the first trailer for Gladiator II and all I could think about was how this was a legacy sequel we didn’t need. Legacy sequels are all the rage these days. It’s when Hollywood takes a long abandoned movie or franchise and comes up with a new sequel a decade+ later, most often with the same cast. The same cast is usually the selling point.

He looks rich

We’ve already gotten a new Beverly Hills Cop this year, and we’re due to have Beetlejuice 2 later this year. Announcements have been made for legacy sequels to Happy Gilmore and Spaceballs. But we’ve had tons in recent years, from Ghostbusters to the Matrix to The Incredibles. Personally, I’m hit or miss with these. If they make for good movies, fine, but not every movie needs a legacy sequel. In fact, I’ve put together a list of six stand alone movies that don’t need legacy sequels. They’re mostly from the 80s and 90s, because that’s long ago at this point to count as a legacy sequel, and the casts are all mostly still alive and still around.

Join me after the jump for six movies that I don’t think should ever be graced with a legacy sequel. And feel free to share some of your own in the comments below!

6 of My Preferred Superman Status Quos

I started watching My Adventures With Superman recently and it’s pretty fun! We’ve also got that new Superman movie coming out next year or so. And that live action Superman & Lois show is coming upon it’s last season. So everything is coming up Superman these days! I figured that meant I should do a Superman list.

High hopes for this film

This list is about my personally preferred Superman status quos. Is that the right way to say it? I wasn’t sure of the word choice. Basically, there are a bunch of factoids about Superman’s basic set up and origin, and they tend to change from one adaptation or comic to the next. It’ll make more sense what I’m talking about once I get to the actual list. I’m not entirely sure where these opinions came from, probably stuff I was introduced to about the character when I was a kid. And now all of that has been weathered by age and seeing various takes on the Man of Steel. Well, these are my favorite takes!

Join me after the jump for my personal choices when it comes to crafting Superman’s status quo! And feel free to share your own versions in the comments below!

6 X-Men Who Could Be Avengers

Despite being two of the flagship teams at Marvel, there has been very little membership crossover between the X-Men and the Avengers. In fact, it’s being hailed as a big deal that Storm will join the Avengers later this year as part of the new X-Men revival. Should be fun!

I should get back into reading this comic

Only a couple of X-Men have joined the Avengers over the decades. Beast is the most famous, and then Wolverine joined when they reworked the Avengers out of the most popular characters in the 2000s. Cannonball and Sunspot joined Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers because he loves those characters. And the Uncanny Avengers have been a thing a couple of times. But this list is all about the main Avengers roster, the premiere superhero team in the Marvel Universe. The roster tends to always be in flux these days, and I think it could use some new mutant blood.

So join me after the jump for six X-Men characters who, I think, could make it as Avengers. Or at least they’d be an interesting addition to the team. And feel free to share your own ideas in the comments below!
