The London 2012 Olympics Are a Hotspot of Doctor Activity
Did somebody say they want to see fresh Doctor Who material before the next season starts in a few months? Well then check out this brief video about the 11th Doctor helping out an Olympic torch-runner in the London 2012 Olympics. It was written by the students of the Ashdene School in Cheshire, England as part of a “Script to Screen” competition hosted by the BBC kids show Blue Peter. Because I guess that kind of thing happens in England. Either way, it’s a fun new bit with the Doctor and Amy Pond.
Though as any fan will tell you, we already know that the 10th Doctor is already at the scene of the London 2012 Olympics, and in fact he will eventually be the one to carry the torch the final leg of its journey to start the games.
Because that’s how time travel works.
Amy Pond Loves Inspector Spacetime
Let’s get meta, folks.
Actress Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond on the TV show Doctor Who, is a big fan of ‘Inspector Spacetime’, the Doctor Who spoof on the TV show Community. How’s that for some fourth-wall breaking circular logic?
The Doctor Who RPG by College Humor
Sadly, this isn’t real. But quite honestly, after watching this video, how can anybody make sense of Doctor Who? Sheesh! The geniuses at College Humor have put together a video showcasing Doctor Who as if it were a 16-bit RPG from the Super Nintendo era. It’s funny, but mostly it’s insane. But it sticks very closely to the actual episodes, so it’s the show Doctor Who that’s really the insane one!
Fans will love his. People who don’t watch Doctor Who won’t have any idea what’s going on.
SPOILERS: This contains spoilers to seasons 5 and 6 of Doctor Who, the Matt Smith years. Don’t watch if you haven’t seen those episodes yet!
My 6 Favorite Doctor Who Episodes
Once upon a time, I couldn’t care less about Doctor Who. I knew it existed, I’m pretty sure it was on the Sci-Fi channel and I knew there was a special kind of nerd that really loved the show. But I wasn’t one of them. What can I say, I just didn’t go for it. There was something about British cinematography that I just didn’t like, and what little I had seen of the Doctor and his pals fit that style. I just didn’t think it was for me.
What a fool I had been.
Doctor Who is an amazing show! My cute British girlfriend convinced me to give it a shot, and together we just started watching episode after episode. Suffice to say, we were hooked pretty darn quickly. The show is maddeningly brilliant when it comes to wild and crazy science fiction ideas. Then it couples that with a quirky and entertaining protagonist, the Doctor himself, and really fantastic companions, friends and enemies. At its heart, it’s a very human, very character-driven story. You really feel the Doctor’s joy, his anger, his desire to do good. And most of all, you feel his loneliness.
And it’s that loneliness that makes the Doctor one of the greatest fictional characters ever. I know I’m a huge fan. So to celebrate some Doctor Who, here are my Top 6 Favorite episodes! Hopefully you’ll share some of your favorite episodes in the comments.
Be warned, there will definitely be SPOILERS for these episodes in this list. So don’t read if you don’t want to be spoiled.
Doctor Who Season 7 Trailer!
The trailer for Season 7 of Doctor Who – which I believe starts in November sometime – has started hitting the web. Thanks to commentor Frivolous Monsters, we have a really good quality version from the BBC! Thanks, friend!
Check out the new trailer here!
I think the trailer looks pretty neat. We’ve got some new bad guys and, mostly, a visit to the Old West. It looks to be a rip-roaring good time. And is that…a Dalek?
