6 Things I Want to See in Grand Theft Auto VI
I’ve been writing this blog for a very long time. I did a search of Grand Theft Auto articles to see if I’d already done this list, and it turns out I started writing this blog even before Grand Theft Auto V came out more than a decade ago! Holy cow! Anyway, I found out that I hadn’t done this list specifically! We got the GTA VI teaser trailer yesterday, so let’s celebrate!
Between the new trailer and some earlier leaks, we already know a bit about the game. It’s a return to Vice City, the Miami stand-in. And we’ve got the first ever female protagonist for a mainstream GTA game. I really wanted that, so awesome! Though, personally, I had no interest in returning to Vice City. I wouldn’t mind a new location outside of Vice City, Los Santos or Liberty City. Heck, I’d even take a game in Las Venturas, the Las Vegas stand-in. But hey, I’m very flexible and I’m sure the setting will be awesome!
Join me after the jump for what I’d like to see in Grand Theft Auto VI, from gameplay elements to open world possibilities. And feel free to share your own game hopes and dreams in the comments below.
6. More heists
One thing I really, really enjoyed in GTA 5 were the heists. I loved putting together a crew of recruitable NPCs and pulling off various heist prep missions, before the big set piece. That was great and I hope they return! I would also love it if the recruitable members were more ingrained in the story and world. Like, maybe the hacker you recruit is a supporting character from the story. Or you can bring a boyfriend as the getaway driver. I think that would be neat.
5. An actual mystery with a resolution
Remember back when GTA 5 came out and there was a big to-do about the alien spacecraft? Or the symbols inside the mountain? I don’t remember. It was a decade ago. I remember it seemed like the developers had put the clues to a big mystery in the game, and that it would lead to something cool. I don’t think it ever led to anything, right? Obviously they couldn’t predict how big GTA Online would become, so maybe they planned to reveal it eventually. But I want them to have learned from those mistakes and to put in a real mystery with a real resolution in the game, even if the resolution comes down the line somewhere.
4. A hurricane
The game takes place in Florida, the main target of hurricanes. So why not put one in the game? It would be big and crazy and affect everything — sounds like a good late story mission, eh? Have to do a big heist in the middle of a hurricane? A Hurricane Heist, if you will? I saw that film in theaters! But I digress. A hurricane might cause some major changes to the map of the game, which would be tough. But GTA could use a big weather event in their big, open world.
3. Previous character cameos
We know that the GTA games all take place in the same universe. There were a couple of cameos of GTA 4 characters in GTA 5, though they were sometimes small. I would love to see some main character cameos in GTA 6. I forget, did Tommy Vercetti survive the original Vice City game? If he did, make him an aging gangster in the new game! Show us Nico Bellic on vacation! Or any of the GTA 5 protagonists on vacation in Miami. I suppose I’ll even settle for a Brucie cameo, if that’s all they give us. I just think they’re fun!
2. Lots to buy
My biggest complaint about GTA 4 was the lack of things to spend money on. You got apartments and cars for free, along with weapons and ammo and all sorts of things. You only really had to spend money on clothing. Things improved greatly in GTA 5, there was a lot more to buy. So I hope GTA 6 expands upon that even more. I remember getting to buy properties and earning passive income in Vice City. Maybe we can buy businesses and just let them run, or maybe design the interiors? We could become landlords. We could buy boats maybe? Beachfront property? They sky’s the limit! I used the stock market trick in GTA 5 to have a billion dollars by the endgame…and then nothing to spend it on. Maybe we could buy a sports team?
1. Disney World
I know that Disney World is in Orlando and not Miami, and the two cities are hours apart. But the leaked map for GTA 6 shows a big portion of area beyond Miami, and there’s no reason they couldn’t slip Disney World out there in the wilderness portion. I just want a massive theme park to play around in. It would be such a fun and unique map feature. Florida is known for its big theme parks, and GTA 6 should take full advantage of that idea.
Obviously, it wouldn’t be Disney World itself. But Rockstar could come up with the ultimate parody and make it work. Then include rides, monorails, hotels, a ton of walking space, a bajillion people; the whole culture could impact parts of the game. And I really just think it would be a fun place to visit, out there in the swampland.
