6 Answers I Need from Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati

The Ahsoka TV show is almost over and there’s only one thing I really care about: the secret history and potential futures of Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati. I haven’t seen last night’s episode yet, so maybe every question on this list has already been answered, but I wrote this list anyway. These characters are super damn cool.

Who needs Qui-Gonn

I think everyone agrees that Baylan and Shin are the best part about the Ahsoka show. It’s a good show, it’s fine. But does anybody really care about Sabine getting back to Ezra? I watched all of Rebels, but I really, really don’t care. Should we really be all that concerned about Grand Admiral Thrawn when the sequels exist? No thank you. I want to know more about the super cool, super mysterious dark Force-users who have their own agenda and aren’t super predictable.

So join me after the jump for six questions I have about Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, even if they are super obvious questions.

6. How did they meet?

In space?

So we know a fair amount about Baylan Skoll. He was a member of the Jedi Order during the Prequels area, fought in the Clone Wars like all the other Jedi, and then ended up on his own off into the depths of space by the end, his faith shattered. So how and where did he meet the young Shin? She’s presumably some Force-sensitive kid out there in the universe. The Rise of the Empire didn’t shut down the Force, so kids like Shin still existed. So how did they meet? Let us know!

5. Why did he choose to train her?

Was he lonely?

Baylan has said he has trained Shin to be more than just another Jedi. What’s his goal here? Did he already plan to travel to another galaxy and break the cycle when he met Shin? How old was she when they met and he started training her? He clearly stuck to some of the traditional Master/Padawan traditions. Why? Why not do something wholly different? What is their whole deal, man?!

4. Will Shin betray Baylan?

She’s got that energy

They may not be Sith, but they’re pretty much bad guys, and bad guys don’t exactly inspire a lot of confidence or loyalty. Shin seems a lot more feral than Baylan’s stoicism. So is she going to betray him? Stab him in the back in order to take his place at the seat of power? That feels like the obvious, predictable move. I don’t want it to happen. Granted, Ray Stevenson died earlier this year (RIP), so we can’t exactly get anymore Baylan Skoll scenes. But man, I really want them to stay a team.

3. What’s with the orange lightsabers?

Besides being really cool, I mean

Alright, the all-important question: orange lightsabers? How did that happen? Why did that happen? How are they made and why do these two have them? Surely Baylan didn’t have an orange lightsaber back when he was a Jedi. So he must have gotten a new orange crystal…and a second one for Shin. How did this happen? And why doesn’t anybody ask about it? Why is there no season of Ahsoka asking Huyang about orange lightsabers? Surely he’d know something. Also, for reals, in the 500 or so years he was a lightsaber enthusiast, he never saw anybody else build a lightsaber hilt like Baylan Skoll? His hilt looks pretty standard to me.

2. Will they re-issue the LEGO mini-figs with orange blades?

You had one job, LEGO!

In a fight of birthday-induced recklessness, I bought the new LEGO set earlier this month that features the Baylan and Shin mini-figures. It was foolish of me. I haven’t even built it yet. But I know that the two mini-figs have red lightsabers instead of orange. It’s especially weird, because LEGO has been making translucent orange pieces for decades. Could they not make a couple of orange lightsaber blades? Why red?! I want a new set with the two characters with orange blades. Or I want to find some black market website where i can buy those unique LEGO pieces. That would suffice, probably.

1. Will this be their end?

Looks like any other normal planet

Shin might still betray and kill Baylan…but will they both die at the end of this season? We don’t know if Ahsoka is going to have multiple seasons. It’s supposed to be building to a movie. So will Baylan and Shin find what they’re searching for on this planet, and it kills them? Will Ahsoka kill them in a final battle? Obviously they couldn’t predict Ray Stevenson dying, but villains aren’t necessarily long-lived in any show. So…do we only get these last two episodes of Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati?! I hope not.

I’d probably be OK with recasting Baylan…and I’d definitely be OK with him dying (other than being killed by Shin) and having her step up to take his place. That would be cool!
