Cyberpunk 2077, the Next Great Video Game, Has Been Revealed!

E3 was this weekend and a lot of fun video games were announced and/or revealed. The one I am most excited about is Cyberpunk 2077, by CD Projekt Red. If you’re not familiar with that developer, they’re the geniuses behind The Witcher series, including The Witch 3: Wild Hunt, arguably the greatest role-playing game of all time.

So there’s a very good chance that Cyberpunk 2077 could be the greatest role-playing game of all time.

I am very excited for this game. We don’t have a release date yet, but it should be in another year or two. CD Projekt Red announced this game a bunch of years ago, then went silent while they finished off The Witcher 3 and its DLC. Now they have a trailer and something to show, so hopefully the hype will just keep building.

From what I’ve gathered on the web, including people deciphering hidden messages within that trailer, this looks to be another single-player role-playing game set in a crazy future America, full of gangs and mega-corporations. So all the greatness of their Witcher RPGs, but in a new world with a new franchise, where there is no limit on creativity.

I was going to complain about the main character in the trailer being another white guy, but I’ve also heard that we’ll be able to create our own main character, so that settles that. I love creating my own character, and to be able to do so in a CD Projekt Red RPG should be phenomenal!

  1. From what I gathered the game will release in 2019, because the Polish government gave CDPR money and one of the conditions is they must release something by 2019 or give it back.
I have a theory they will release it worldwide on december 31 2019, partly to have as much development time as possible and partly because the game is an adaptation/sequel of the tabletop game “Cyberpunk 2020”, with it’s creator helping with it, and that way they will be meta about it.

    • Based on a tabletop game? Neat! I’m not sure if I knew that. But I’m willing to wait as long as it takes. My PC should be able to handle it just fine. It handled Witcher 3 without a hitch.

      • Yes, and apparently they are working on a way to make the stats and inventory similar enough to the pen and paper RPG so that a person can use their character of the videogame in the tabletop as well, which means it will much more of an RPH that the witcher ever was.

Here’s an interview with the creator of the game from years ago which I think you might like:
