Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is a Mouthful

I get that sub-titles are all the rage in superhero movies these days, that simply numbering new movies in ascending order is too passe. But jeez, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is just a bit of a mouthful!

Warner Bros and DC Comics revealed the full title today on Facebook, announcing that principle photography has begun and blah, blah, blah.

The title, man, the title! What is up with that title? We’re approaching X2: X-Men United levels of bad titlery. First of all, the ‘V’ in the middle is a real stopping point when pronouncing the whole thing. Why not a ‘VS’? ‘Versus’ is so much more fun to say than ‘V’. Then this ‘Dawn of Justice’ stuff? Who needs it? I get that DC is building a Justice League with this movie, but we didn’t need the  subtitle. If it was Man of Steel: Dawn of Justice, maybe. But ‘Batman vs. Superman’ is a freaking awesome movie title! Why not just go with that?! How is that not infinitely cooler?

  1. I agree, man. Batman vs. Superman was too much as it was. We get it. It’s leading into Justice League. They should’ve just gone with World’s Finest.

  2. I think that Batman vs. Superman was more than enough. It was short, simple and to the point. This title is too long.

I think they got away from the versus, but to not piss off fans who are already upset about the lie that they would be retelling the original story and now are not, they left the v to make it appear as though its still Batman vs Superman.
I personally wanted a Superman 2, with maybe another JL movie the same year. Then do a small team-up movie ala Batman/Superman: World’s Finest. And finally release the JL movie.

    • I very much disliked Man of Steel, so I’m more than excited to see Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League thrust into the sequel. Just seeing them all together should be mildly entertaining.

I thought I should say that the “v” is still pronounced as “verses”. Also I like the “dawn of justice” bit because it clearly means the beginning of the justice league but I agree it’s too long, I think they just put it in because they went too long without officially announcing the title and thought people might be disappointed is it was just Batman vs Superman because that’s what everyone expected.

    • The single ‘v’ is what they use in court cases, and they actually pronounce it as just ‘v’. Like in Roe v. Wade!

Please Mr. Henchmanforhirei don’t take away my verses. i’m still going to pronounce it as verses because “v” just sound awkward.

      • Oh me too! Obviously! I just find it funny that Warner Bros. is causing this dilemma in the first place because someone somewhere on their payroll opted not to include a simple ‘S’!

  5. It’s a fine title. People are just gonna call it Batman v Superman anyways. Although I think Superman v Batman has a better syllabic ring to it. Oh wait, you know what? We’re over-analyzing it.
