Watch Out, Tim Drake Fans! DC is Still a Den of Liars!
Do not buy this week’s issue of Batman and Red Robin #19! Well, I mean, you can buy it if you want to. But if you, like me, were looking for any examination of the Bruce/Tim dynamic in the New 52, you will be grossly disappointed. The two barely have anything to do with one another, and when they do interact, it’s just a circumstance of the plot.
This is almost as bad as when we were teased about Red Robin getting an issue of Night of the Owls. Seriously, if you were planning on buying this comic just for the Tim Drake appearance, save your money.
I’ll post some spoilers after the jump. Just know that this issue is not a team up between Bruce and Tim. DC Comics is a Den of Liars and Thieves!
6 Superhero Movies That DC Comics Should Make
There’s never going to be a Justice League movie. It’s not going to star Christian Bale or Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Batman. And it’s not going to be directed by Christopher Nolan. Granted, this is probably just my opinion, but I feel confident in declaring that DC Comics are never going to get their act together. They are never going to create any movie to compete with Marvel’s multi-billion dollar Avengers juggernaut. It’s simply not going to happen. Even though DC Comics is owned by Warner Bros., which is already in the movie-making business, they are never going to succeed in creating anything more than the occasional Superman or Batman film.
But wouldn’t it be great if they could? If Marvel can make successful franchises out of Iron Man, Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy, wouldn’t it be great if DC could get some other heroes up on the big screen?
Being the huge comic book nerd that I am, I looked over DC’s impressive roster of characters and picked out a few that I think could make for a good movie. Not all of them may be as successful as Iron Man or The Avengers, but if DC can make a popular TV show out of Green Arrow, or waste millions of dollars on a bad Green Lantern movie, I think they should consider some of these options. And please tell me some of your ideas in the comments. What DC movies would you like to see?
Batman: Arkham Origins Announced!
As was rumored some time ago, we now know today that the next Batman: Arkham game will be a prequel set in the early days of the Caped Crusader. Whether this is a good idea remains to be seen, but I’m going to keep an open mind. It definitely gets them around the problem of Joker being dead at the end of Batman: Arkham City.
According to Game Informer magazine, Batman: Arkham Origins will be about 8 of the world’s deadliest assassins coming together on Christmas Eve to kill Batman. It’s also going to feature the real streets of Gotham City, possibly in more of an open world than Arkham Asylum or Arkham City.
The game comes out on Oct. 25 of this year!
Unfortunately, the game is out of the hands of Rocksteady, who developed both Arkham Asylum and Arkahm City. Warner Bros. Games Montreal is taking over, and I have no clue if they’ll do a good job or not. Apparently they’ve got access to all of Rocksteady’s stuff, including the game engine, so…yay? Maybe? I dunno. I’m going to try to be mostly positive. Here’s a quick video of the guys at Montreal talking about how they know damn well the legacy they have to live up to.
Another plus of a prequel is that they’ll get to tell the stories of Batman’s first meetings with several key characters. Maybe the game will also be about the Joker’s first attack? We know Deathstroke is going to be in the game.
What about, oh I don’t know, Robin?
I probably shouldn’t get my hopes up.
Also, this sounds like a good time to check out my most popular lists of all time, the 6 Things I Want in the Next Batman: Arkham Game!
All of My Hopes and Dreams for Injustice: Gods Among Us Are Wiped Out With One Depressing Clip
Regular readers of my blog will know that I’ve been eagerly tracking the character roster for the upcoming DC superhero video game Injustice: Gods Among Us, hoping that my favorite superhero, Robin, would be a playable fighter. I mean, c’mon, am I really the only one who sees the excitement in being able to pit Batman against Robin? It’s the classic story of teacher vs. student, of mentor vs. apprentice! Well the final two characters have been leaked to the Internet, and they are…drum roll please…wait…they’re who? God dammit! Cancel the drum roll!
It’s Killer Frost and Ares. What the freakin’ Hell!?
Really, Injustice: Gods Among Us? Really? Killer Frost and freakin’ Ares? That’s the best you could come up with? Of all the hundreds of exciting characters in the DC Universe, you give us Killer Frost and Ares? When have they ever been relevant? Killer Frost didn’t even make my list of the Top 6 Snow and Ice-Themed Comic Book Characters, and nobody cares about Ares! Wonder Woman fans probably don’t even care about Ares.
“Oh boy, I can’t wait to buy Injustice: Gods Among Us, so I can play as my favorite DC comic book character: Ares!” SAID NO ONE EVER!
But oh, we’re not done, boys and girls. Not by a long shot. Finalizing the roster with Killer Frost and Ares would be bad enough, but Injustice: Gods Among Us had to go and twist the proverbial knife! Right into my soft, beating heart! Some of you have suggested that I should just be happy that we get to play as Nightwing. He’s kind of like Robin.
But there’s something you need to know about Nightwing…
Some Marvel LEGO Goodness
Check out this gameplay trailer for the upcoming LEGO Marvel Superheroes game!
Looks pretty cool to me. I like the full voice acting, even if the jokes can be pretty lame at times. Still, everyone looks great, and that giant LEGO Sandman looks fantastic! They should turn him into a playset of some kind.
